Beneath a ceiling of cloudy and sombre skies, the Martingrove White Sox defeated our Toronto Playgrounds Minor Peewee Selects 8-5 in 4 ½ innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Select action this evening at Carmen Bush Park.

Here are some highlights:

  • Trailing 5-1 after three innings, TP rallied for four runs in the top of the fourth to tie the proceedings. Josh’s (37) 2 RBI single was a key factor in the comeback.
  • Toronto Playgrounds used an effective combination of two southpaw pitchers [Jamie tossed the first two frames and Nick (10) threw the third and fourth innings] to neutralize the predominantly left swinging White Sox batting order.
  • Martingrove took advantage of some TP defensive errors in the bottom of the fourth to score three and take an 8-5 lead.
  • In the end, a combination of mental lapses and sloppy defensive plays undermined the TP effort.

In a postgame interview, TP Minor Peewee Select Head Coach Paul Kelly was reflective on his team’s effort against the White Sox: “Take out the errors and I think we might have at least tied.”

The TP Minor Peewee Selects (1-2) continue their early season road trip next week when they travel to Queensway South on Wednesday, May 25 to battle the Royal York Cardinals at 6:00 pm.
