THE GRITTY BEANTOWNERS PREVAIL OVER THE PESKY M’s IN A ROUND ROBIN TOURNAMENT GAME AT CHRISTIE PITS

Beneath a layer of genteel September skies, the Red Sox defeated the Mariners 7-4 in four innings of Mosquito Division Round Robin Tournament action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 3.

The proceeding was an exciting affair that was contested between two talented and well coached teams. In the end, the Beantowners utilized their speed to snap a 4-4 tie in the final inning to prevail for the victory over the M’s.

In the top of the first, the Red Sox jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. After a one out single by Guillermo (14) that put a runner at first, Desmond  (3) followed with a single. As he made the turn at second, Guillermo made a brazen bid to advance to third. On the attempt to nab him, the M’s defence committed an error that allowed Desmond to advance to third and Guillermo to come home with the opening run of the game.

Mariners starter Jacob (9) would strikeout three in the first to quell the Beantown insurgency.

Red Sox starter Duncan (9) would strikeout three in the bottom of the first to keep the M’s off the scoring log and moored to the dock.

The Red Sox would explode for three runs in the top of the second to widen their lead to 4-0. After a leadoff single by Troy (5), Davide (13) and Nate (4) drew back to back walks to load the bases. Caden (15) followed with a two RBI double to bring Troy and Davide home. A subsequent faux pas by the Mariners defence would allow Caden to move to third and Nate to come homeward with a run.

Refusing to surrender, the Mariners rallied with three in the bottom of the second to trim the deficit to one. Following a leadoff walk by Angus (7), Milo (13) stroked a single and Parker (15) garnered a walk to load the bases. With two outs, Riley (1) delivered a clutch two RBI double to bring Angus and Milo home. A subsequent error by the Beantown defence would allow Parker to motor home with a run.

In a spirited effort on the hill, Red Sox reliever Guillermo (14) struck out two M’s in the second frame.

With 1-2-3 efficiency, Mariners reliever Milo (13) rung up a pair of strikeouts and a 1-3 groundout in the top of the third to keep the Red Sox off the scoring ledger and in the laundry bin.

The Mariners would score a run in the bottom portion of the third to deadlock the game 4-4. Following a leadoff walk by Ky (11), Elliot (3) delivered a grace under pressure two out RBI triple to bring him home with the tying run.

Red Sox reliever Troy (5) would chalk up a pair of groundouts and a strikeout to douse the M’s rebellion in the third.

In the top of the fourth, the Red Sox utilized their speed on the basepaths to put pressure on the Mariners defence and score three to take a 7-4 lead. Following a leadoff single, Desmond stole two bases with aplomb to advance to third. William (6) followed with a RBI single to bring Desmond home with the go ahead run.

After stealing a pair of bases to reach third, William pounced upon a M’s error to blaze home with a run.

With one out, Troy drew a walk and swiped a pair to advance to third base. A Mariners faux pas would allow Troy to motor home with an insurance run.

In a valiant effort on the mound, Mariners reliever Miles (12) struck out two Beantowners in the fourth inning.

The Mariners continued to battle in the bottom of the fourth as Milo singled to put a runner on base. However, Red Sox closer Desmond (3) sealed the deal on the victory by striking out three M’s to bring the curtain down on the proceedings.
