SEIZING UPON THEIR OPPORTUNITIES, THE GOLD RIVERDOGS PREVAIL OVER TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS AT CHRISTIE PITS

Liam (26) launches a woolly mammoth solo home run blast over the fence in the left centre field during TP’s four run rally in the third inning against the York Gold at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Dash delivers a RBI double during TP’s two run surge in the first frame. In a subsequent at bat, Dash would crush a three run home run blast to deep centre field in the third. In two at bats, Dash went 2 for 2 [double. home run] to power the TP attack with two runs scored and four RBI’s versus York.

Beneath a tranquil ceiling of warm summer skies, the York Gold defeated the Toronto Playgrounds Peewee Selects 13-7 in four innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Peewee Select Loop action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

The proceeding was an entertaining contest between two talented teams. In the end, the Gold made the most of their opportunities to prevail over TP for their eleventh victory of the season.

York staked itself to an early 2-0 lead in the top half of the first. Following a pair of one out singles by Luca T. (19) and Daniel (44) that put two mallards on the pond, Emilio (63) delivered a clutch two out two RBI triple to bring Luca T. and Daniel home with the opening runs of the game.

TP starter Dash (4) would induce a pair of groundouts and a fly out in the first to extinguish the Gold rebellion.

TP leadoff batter Vince (19) sparked the TP offence with his ability to get on base against York. In three at bats, Vince garnered three walks, stole three bases and scored two runs for TP.

In the bottom of the first, TP replied with a pair to deadlock the game 2-2. After a leadoff single by Vince (19), Dash delivered a one out RBI double to bring Vince home with TP’s first run.

Following a single by Liam that put two aboard, Fernando grounded out into a fielder’s choice that allowed Dash to come home with the tying run.

York starter Lucas (2) would tally a strikeout, groundout and fly out in the first frame to end the TP mutiny.

The Gold answered back with three in the top of the second frame to take a 5-2 lead. After a pair of one out singles by Liam (5) and Luca M. (25), Nathan (7) hustled down the line on a dropped third strike to reach first base safely. On the play to nab him, TP committed a mojo jojo faux pas that allowed Liam, Luca M. and Nathan to come home with York’s go ahead runs.

Emilio (63) delivers a RBI single for York in the fourth. In three at bats, Emilio hit for the tricycle by going 3 for 3 [triple. double, single] at the dish to power the Gold attack with two runs scored and three RBI’s against TP.

Shaken, but not stirred, TP starter Dash would ring up a line out and a pair of strikeouts in the second to quell the Gold insurgency.

TP replied with a run in the bottom portion of the second to trim the gap to 5-3. After garnering a leadoff walk, Luca (12) utilized his Grand Theft skulduggery to steal his way around the horn to third. On the play to nab him at third, York committed an error that allowed Luca to motor homeward.

Gold starter Lucas would chalk up a strikeout and groundout in the second to douse the TP revolt.

With two outs, Lucas would also be helped out by York catcher Emilio, when he hooked up with shortstop Kieran to throw out TP baserunner Josh (16) on a pretty 2-6 putout at second base.

York exploded for four in the top of the third to expand its advantage to 9-3. Following a double by Emilio and a walk by Matteo (11) that put two otters on the lake, Talan (52) stroked a one out two RBI single to bring Emilio and Matteo home.

After receiving the throw from catcher Emilio (63), York Gold shortstop Kieran (20) tags out TP baserunner Josh (16) to thwart his bid to steal second base in the second inning.

After a pair of walks by Michael (34) and Shamar (42) loaded the bases, Liam garnered a RBI walk to bring Talan home. Subsequently, a TP wild pitch allowed Michael to score another run from third.

With two outs, TP reliever Luca (12) entered the fray to ring up a strikeout to quell the Gold insurrection.

Refusing to surrender, TP rallied with four in the bottom of the third to slice the margin to 9-7. After a leadoff single by Vince, Elliott (20) delivered a single that put two ducks on the pond. Dash followed with a majestic three run home run blast to the deep dish pizza portion of centre field.

With momentum on TP’s side, Liam stepped into the batter’s box and scorched a searing holy cow solo home run shot over the chained link fence in deep left centre field that pulled TP within two of the Gold.

With his team reeling from a feverish TP rally bid, York reliever Michael (34) entered the fray in the third to pitch two scoreless innings to seal the deal on the Gold’s 13-7 victory.

Reeling on the ropes with no outs, York reliever Michael (34) came in from the bullpen in the third to chalk up a groundout, pickoff and a strikeout to snuff out the TP rally.

The Gold would add four insurance runs in the top of the fourth to widen its lead to 13-7 After Luca T. and Daniel drew back to back walks to open the inning and put two seals on the lake, Emilio  stroked a RBI single to bring Luca T. home.

After Matteo was hit by pitch to load the bases, Michael and Shamar garnered a pair of two out bases loaded RBI walks to plate Daniel and Emilio. A subsequent wild pitch would allow Matteo to come home with another run.

TP reliever Luca would tally a pop out, strikeout and groundout in the fourth to terminate the York rebellion.

Gold reliever Michael would ring up a groundout and two strikeouts in the bottom of the fifth to keep TP off the scoring ledger and seal the deal on the victory.

The TP Peewee Selects (2-10) continue their homestand at Christie Pits Diamond 2 next Wednesday (July 25) when they host the Royal York Girls at 7:00 p.m.
