Beneath a succulent duvet of warm and hazy skies, the Martingrove White defeated the Toronto Playgrounds Rookie Ball Selects 14-7 in a seven inning West Hill Baseball League Rookie Select Tournament Semi-Final Game this morning at Adams Park.

It was a tooth nail semi-final battle between two talented teams. In the end, the White Sox prevailed over TP to advance to the championship round.

Logan (5) was named TP’s MVP in the semi-final proceeding.

Despite falling short of their goal, TP Rookie Ball Select Head Coach Reagan Maude was extremely proud about what her team accomplished together this weekend at the West Hill tourney: “We lost in the semi-finals. But our guys battled so hard right to the end.”

TP began its journey at the tourney on Friday night with a convincing 17-2 win over the Newmarket Hawks to earn their first round robin victory. Malito (20) was named TP’s MVP of the game.

In a round robin game played on Saturday morning, the North York Blues defeated TP 12-1 at Adams Park Diamond 2 to hand them their first loss at the tournament. Nico (38) was named TP’s MVP of the game.

Toronto Playgrounds rebounded with authority yesterday afternoon in a do or die affair as they thrashed the Leaside Leafs 17-2 to win their second round robin game and secure a semi-final playoff berth versus Martingrove.

For hitting the TP Rookie Ball Selects first home run blast of the 2019 season, Jack (1) was named TP’s Game MVP.

The Toronto Playgrounds Baseball Committee wishes to congratulate TP Rookie Ball Select Head Coach Reagan Maude and Assistant Coaches Chris Bialkowski, Gerry Saieva, Mike Cormier for their fortitude and patience in steering these talented Rookie Ball Selects to the semi-final round at the West Hill Tournament.

Special thanks to David Chisholm for scorekeeping all weekend at the tourney.

The Committee also wishes to commend all the Rookie Ball Select players, coaches and parents for representing the core values of the Toronto Playgrounds Baseball program with honour, dignity and professionalism both on and off the diamond at the tournament and throughout the 2019 season.

Way to go, TP!
