Mosquito Thursdays: Cubs and Giants Battle to an 8-8 Tie

LIZZIES EDGE DODGERS 11-10; CARDINALS POUND PIRATES 14-4

John (10) of the Cubs went 2 for 3 at the plate with a bases loaded triple in the first inning (3 AB; 2 H; 1 SO; 1 R; 3 RBI).

Despite threatening skies above Bickford Park and Christie Pits, the six Mosquito Division teams completed their respective Opening Day games with a high octane display of scoring.

In a seesaw battle at Bickford South, the Cubs and Giants fought to an 8-8 draw in four innings of play.

Clay (13) of the Giants pitched a stellar first inning by striking out three Cubs batters (1 IP; 0 ER; 3 K's).

After the Cubs had taken a 6-2 lead in the top of the third, the Giants mounted a four run rally in their half of the inning to tie the game 6-6. In the fourth inning, both the Cubs and Giants had opportunities to take control of the game. However, each team was only able to score two runs and the game ended in a tie.

Kudos to John (10) of the Cubs for his clutch triple in the first inning which came with bases loaded. Also, another kudos to Clay (13) of the Giants who pitched a masterful first inning. After hitting the first Cubs batter, Clay regained his composure to strike out the next three batters.

In a knock ’em and sock ’em game at Diamond # 3, the Lizzies edged the Dodgers 11-10.

The Cardinals offense took flight at Diamond # 2 as the Red Birds pounded the swashbuckling Pirates 14-4.
