SELECT > York Edges Peewee Selects 10-9

TENACIOUS TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS RALLY FALLS SHORT IN THE FINAL INNING

In a battle royale this evening, York edged the Toronto Playgrounds Peewee Select Team 10-9 in 4 ½ innings of play at Smythe Park.

Trailing York 10 -6 in the top of the fifth, the never say die Peewee Selects rallied for three runs to cut the deficit to one. With TP baserunners on third and second, the Peewee Selects were on the precipice of tying and retaking the lead with a timely hit. Unfortunately, the determined rally fell short as TP was unable to bring those runners home.

Toronto Playgrounds was ahead 6-3 after 3 ½ innings. However, the York batting lineup got red hot in the bottom of the fourth and scored seven runs to jump out in front. According to Peewee Select Head Coach Rob Ball, the key to the York offensive outburst was good patience at the plate and timely hitting.

In a postgame media scrum, Coach Ball said “Although TP fell short in our rally attempt, it was nevertheless a great job by the entire team. Every Peewee Select player pitched in with an important hit, walk or defensive play.”

The Peewee Selects (1-1) play their next game against Royal York 3 on Sunday, May 27 at Queensway Park.
