DODGERS BEAT BACK A SWASHBUCKLING BUCCANEERS RALLY TO SECURE THE TREASURE OF VICTORY

Clockwise from top left: Astrid (2) of the Dodgers is about to hit a double in the third inning; Daniel (3) of the Pirates hit a run scoring single in the third; Jacob (11) of the Dodgers clubs a two run double in the first; Lucas (14) of the Pirates pitches a two run third with one strikeout; Jacob (11) closes out the Dodgers win; Lucas (14) went 2 for 2 at the dish with two runs batted in.

Beneath clear blue skies at the Bickford Park South Diamond this evening, the Dodgers topped the Pirates 9-7 in 3 ½ innings.

In a spirited and entertaining Mosquito Division game, both teams parried back and forth throughout the proceedings for the gold doubloons of victory.

Dodgers starter Sasha (13) pitched a scoreless first inning with two strikeouts.

Dodgers starting pitcher Sasha (13) pitched a solid top of the first (two strikeouts) to keep the Pirates at bay and off the scoresheet.

In the bottom of the first, the Dodgers made the most of their offensive opportunities and scored four to spring ahead 4-0. Astrid (2) hit a sacrifice that allowed Jackson (14) to come home with the first run of the game; Everett (4) scored on a catcher’s throwing error; after Sasha and Adam (8) drew consecutive walks, Jacob delivered a clutch two run double to bring them home.

The Pirates answered back with two runs in the top of the second to trim the deficit to two. Lucas (14) stole home for the Bucs first run; Aaron’s sacrifice brought Quinn (12) in with the other.

However, the Dodgers went right back to work in the bottom of the second and scored three to widen their lead to 7-2. Kayla (7) drew a walk and came around to score on an error; a sacrifice hit by Oliver (9) allowed Henry (10) to come home; another Pirates error opened the door for Tyler (5) to scoot home.

In the top of the third, the Pirates made a gnarly charge and scored four to trim the score to 7-6. A one out double by Lucas brought Adam (15) home; Lucas scored on an error; a single by Daniel (3) brought in Quinn; and a bases loaded walk to Jasper (13) allowed Daniel to come home.

But the disciplined Dodgers scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the third to widen the gap to 9-6. Astrid hit a leadoff double and eventually scored on a wild pitch; after Sasha was hit by a pitch, Adam delivered him home with a double.

The swashbuckling Pirates sent a shiver down the spines of the Dodgers with a spirited comeback attempt in the top of the fourth. After Adam led off with a single and Harrison (7) drew a walk, Lucas hit a clutch single to bring Adam home.

With the tying run on first and protecting a precarious two run lead with no outs, Dodgers closer Jacob (11) dug into his reserves to coax the Pirates to hit into a fielders choice for the first out. Jacob followed up by striking out the next batter for the second out.

Trailing 9-7, Nigel (6) of the Pirates clubbed a deep fly ball to centrefield where Tyler (5) of the Dodgers had to make a spectacular catch to record the final out and secure the victory for his team.
