A Spendid Time Was Had By All

Beneath glorious blue autumn skies today, the TP Baseball Committee staged its first annual Derby For Distance fundraising festivities at Dominico Field at Christie Pits.

Although rain initially delayed the start time of the event for an hour, Mother Nature kindly swept away the showers and brought us some wonderful weather on the first day of fall that allowed us to successfully stage the derby.

Over the course of 6 ½ hours, 103 batters (varying in age from six to sixty-one) stepped into the batter’s box to take their best swings at baseballs being fired out of a pitching machine at speeds ranging from 35 to 80 miles per hour.

Amidst a festive carnival like atmosphere, some great prizes from our sponsors were given away to our participants. Chief among the ducats were a pair of beautiful hand crafted wood bats from the Garrison Creek Bat Company that were raffled off.

Additionally, attendees and volunteers were treated to some delicious Pulled Pork Sandwiches and Hot Dogs from Wild Wing.

It was the consensus at the end of the day that a splendid time was had by all in attendance.

And our primary goal was achieved: to have fun while raising funds for new equipment, benefitting our TP House League Baseball operations in future seasons.

The TP Baseball Committee sincerely thanks all the people who stepped up and volunteered their valuable time and energy to help us to stage the Derby. Whether it was fielding balls, feeding the pitching machine, keeping tabulation of the points, helping out at the the registration and raffle table, setting up tables and equipment, etc., your contributions made the Derby For Distance fundraiser a fun filled and successful event for everyone involved.

The Committee would like to thank the following sponsors who helped us to stage our first Derby For Distance event:

And finally, the Committee wishes to thank Bill Evans and Reagan Maude for intitating and organizing the Derby For Distance fundraising event. Without their tireless energy and logistical acumen, today’s Derby wouldn’t have been the rousing success that it was.

Please check back in the upcoming days as more pictures from the Derby For Distance fundraiser event will be posted.
