TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS HAND THE TOP RANKED WHITE SOX THEIR FIRST LOSS OF THE REGULAR SEASON IN AN EPIC THRILLER AT CHRISTIE PITS
Under the lights on a sombre summer evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2, our TP Major Peewee Selects edged the Martingrove (2) White Sox 10-9 in a thrilling 4 ½ inning EBA West Select Loop nailbiter.
It was an epic battle between two talented squads from start to finish. In the end, Toronto Playgrounds prevailed to not only win their fourth game of the season, but also hand the top ranked White Sox their first regular season defeat of the year.
Trailing 8-5, Toronto Playgrounds rallied in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the fourth to tie the proceedings.
With one out, Alex (9) and John (1) singled to put two TP runners on base. Nathan (10) followed with a RBI single that allowed Alex to score. Next, Maghnus (19) followed with a RBI single that allowed John to come home and make it a one run game.
Subsequently, John Eric (27) delivered a clutch two out RBI single that allowed Nathan to blaze home with the tying run.
After Elena (17) was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Simon (5) powered a grace under pressure two RBI double that allowed Maghnus and John Eric to come homeward bound and propel TP into a two run lead.
Down 10-8, Martingrove battled back with tenacity in the top of the fifth to trim the deficit to one.
With two outs, the bases loaded, and the game on the line, TP closer Tyler (7) dug deep into his reserves to strike out Amanda (7) of the White Sox to seal the deal on a hard fought victory.
The Major Peewees (4-7-1) end their regular season and will begin their playoffs on Friday, August 9 at the EBA Select Tournament.
