Game Post composed by Bill Evans
Our TP Mosquito Select team defeated Weston 7-6 in a five inning nailbiter at Christie Pits on Sunday afternoon.
Nigel (20) hit a walk-off fly ball to left field to score Oly (6) from third to start the TP celebration at home plate.
Louis (16) pitched the first inning and struck out the side to get out of a jam with bases loaded after Weston plated two.
In the second, Alden (7) pitched a fantastic inning and got some help from his defence as Harris (19) caught a high pop fly and alertly doubled up an unsuspecting runner with a throw to Nigel at first. Alden finished off the inning with a strike out.
Trailing 3-0 – Tillie (9) got TP on the board with a base hit and advancing to third on throwing errors. She continued with some excellent baserunning, scoring from third as Lachlan (28) stroked an RBI fielders choice hit.
In the third inning, Solomon (1) recorded all three put outs with two strikeouts and a heads up throw to catcher Oly at home to prevent the Weston team from scoring any runs.
In the bottom of the third Oly got on base with a hit and stole second and third before stealing home with some heads up base running. TP trailed Weston 3-2 after three innings.
Solomon pitched another outstanding fourth inning allowing only one run.
The TP offence came alive in the bottom of the fourth. With Adam and Lachlan (28) on base, Alex (2) stroked a bases clearing triple. Subsequently, Leandro (10) and Alex both came home to score to put TP ahead 6-4.
In the fifth inning, TP pitcher Solomon got in a jam. TP reliever Oliver (24) came in and struck out two Weston batters and made heads up throw to catcher Oly at home to hold the Weston comeback to two runs.
With the score knotted at six, our hero Oly drew a lead off walk and swiftly stole second and third before Nigel’s patient at bat and walk off fly ball single to left field.
The TP dugout emptied and the team celebrated with Oly and Nigel at home plate.
To cap off our regular season finale – Leandro’s parents George and Vanda hosted a season ending wrap up party for the team and the players made a presentation to our volunteer coach Ryusuke Okada from Japan who has been a team favorite since joining the team in May.
The TP Mosquito Select Team looks forward to participating in the TBA Mosquito Select playoffs this upcoming weekend (August 16-18) at Ravina Gardens.
