IN A BARNBURNER, THE CARDS PREVAIL OVER THE GO GO LIZZIES TO EARN THE GOLDEN EGG OF SWEET VICTORY AT CHRISTIE PITS
Game Post composed with file from Aaron Law and Ted Sharp.
Under a layer of warm and sunny skies, the Cardinals defeated the Lizzies 12-10 in 3 ½ innings of Mosquito Division play this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.
Here are the highlights:
-
Thursday night saw the Cardinals add another one to the win column and extend their winning streak to two with a 12-10 victory over the Lizzies in three and a half innings.
-
The Cardinals pitching roster came out to play, confounding the Lizzie batters and striking out eight. Sara had a strong first outing with two strikeouts while Rahim (1) fanned three and protected his low ERA.
-
Despite the warm evening and the Cardinal pitching staff shutting down the Lizzie hitters, the Cardinal defense came out to play and looked alive in the field by limiting runs off Lizzie hits.
-
Aggressive play by third baseman Thomas (6) kept Lizzies baserunners glued to third.
-
The last out of the game came from Cardinals fast baller Piper (8) on the mound, who scooped up a ground ball and tossed it to Joseph (5) just in time to get the out.
-
On offense, the Cardinal bats came alive again for the second game in a row, swinging at good pitches and racking up RBIs. The go ahead run came off a short hop hit from Lucas (14) in the third, and rookie Jacob extended his hitting streak to four games.
- Not a well played game, particularly by the Lizzies who only recorded one out over three innings.
- Daniel (4) of the Lizzies delivered two singles plus a walk.
- The Lizzies had seventeen walks and two hit batsman – not pretty.
