WITH THE CARDINALS FAILING TO SHOW UP FOR THE GAME AT THE OFFICIAL START TIME, TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS IS AWARDED A WIN BY DEFAULT
Beneath a ceiling of serene summer skies, our Toronto Playgrounds Minor Peewee Selects won by default over the Royal York 2 Cardinals this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.
In a strange twist, there were no Cardinals players, coaches or parents at the diamond for the official start time of 7 p.m. As a result, per league rules, TP was awarded a 10-0 default victory over Royal York.
TP Minor Peewee Assistant Coach Robin Griller explained the Cardinals faux pas in a media interview:
“When Royal York arrived forty-five minutes late, we heard two versions for the late arrival. Some of the Cardinals parents said one of their coaches had sent out a notice saying the game time had been changed to 8 p.m. The Cardinals coaches told us it had been entered in their TeamSnap calendar as 8:00 p.m. and they didn’t realize it was actually 7:00 p.m. Since they showed up at 7:45, they agreed that they lost by default as per league rules and we played a shortened game for fun.”
The Minor Peewee Selects (2-7) continue their homestand at Christie Pits Diamond 2 next Wednesday, July 23 when they host the Bloordale 2 Bombers at 7:00 p.m.
