Beneath a canopy of hazy and humid skies, the Royal York Cardinals defeated our Toronto Playgrounds Rookie Ball Selects 29-3 in seven innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Select action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 3.

Utilizing a forty-four hit assault and some stellar defense, Royal York buried TP and cruised to a comfortable victory.

It was a hard day’s night for the Rookie Ball Selects as the bats in the usually hot hitting TP batting lineup went cold. Toronto Playgrounds mustered only eleven hits during the proceedings. Additionally, a superb Cardinals defense took away many hard hit balls that normally would have been sure hits on another day.

Here are some highlights:

  • TP centre fielder Zev (19) stretched all out to make a stellar diving catch in mid air in the top of the second to rob Drew (91) of a sure hit.
  • Cassius (5) delivered a clutch 2 RBI double that allowed Lewis (13) and Dexter (10) to score TP’s first two runs in the bottom of the fourth.
  • Left fielder Solomon (23) made a super catch to rob Nico (2) of a sure fire hit in the fourth.
  • Pitcher Charlie (7) snagged a hot tamale line drive off the bat of Adam A. (24) in the sixth to record the first out of the frame.
  • TP shortstop Dexter (10) snared a smokin’ line drive off the bat of Adam R. (12) to record the second out in the sixth.
  • With one out and a two runners on base, Daniel (8) stroked a RBI single in the sixth that brought Dexter home with TP’s third run of the game.

The Rookie Ball Selects (4-6) will play their next EBA Select game on Wednesday, July 22 when they host the Annette A’s at Christie Pits Diamond 3 at 6:30 p.m.
