Sailing beneath a canopy of gusty and overcast skies, the Pirates defeated the Giants 8-1 in three shiver me timber innings of Mosquito Division play this evening on the rough waters of Christie Pits Diamond Three Inlet.

The Giants were shut out by the Pirates in the first two innings with five strike outs and a ground out. After the Bucs had built an 8-0 lead after 2 ½ innings, the Mighty Giants bats came to life in the bottom of the third – with Adam (10) and then James [Rookie Ball call up] walked. Teddy (12) came up and hit a line drive….Adam came home and James tried to score but was thrown out at the plate by the Pirates.

Here is a bonus log of the battle for the mizzenmast courtesy of Pirates Captain Jeff Kolyn.

The Pirates played a solid all around game.  Good defence, solid hitting, and their patented patience came through.

The top of the first was highlighted by a Jeremy (4) double scoring Andre (15) who walked and stole his way to third. One pitch later, Jeremy stole third and then home. Olivia (6) and Adi (7) [Adi also stole home] each walked and stole a pair of bags, while Joshren helped the cause with a walk. Aaron (2) cleaned it all up with solid RBI single.

In the bottom of the first, Pirates starter Adi (7) struck out the side in a quick inning for the road team.

The Pirates were held off the board in the second, but Andre earned another walk first.

In the bottom of the second inning Aaron (2) struck out two more batters, and Adi closed it out on a nice fielding play to Olivia, who handled a tough grab at first.

Full if confidence, the Bucs stepped up and scored four more in the top of the third. Adi, Joshren, Aaron [hit by pitch], Oscar (1), Andre [RBI], Lucas (9) [RBI], Jeremy [RBI], and Olivia [RBI] all walked to set up the bottom of the third.

In the bottom of the third, first time Pirates hurler Andre (15) stepped in and pitched to three Giants batters, and struck out one. Buccaneers reliever Olivia (6) took over and
struck out another batter. And Joshren ended the game by throwing out James of the Giants at home plate on a nice throw to Pirates catcher Jeremy, who handled a tough hop to close it
out.
