Celebration Day for the players in our Toronto Playgrounds House League Rookie Ball Division is only days away.

A special day where all eight of our Rookie Ball teams play their final games of the 2014 season and celebrate a Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious spring and summer of baseball in grand fashion.

Parents and Players are advised that the Rookie Ball Celebration Day event will take place on Saturday, August 23 at Christie Pits Diamond 3.

Here is the 2014 Rookie Ball Celebration Day Game Schedule for Saturday, August 23 (ALL games at Christie Pits Diamond 3):

  • Game 1 > 9:30 a.m.: Jaguars at Bobcats [Christie Pits Diamond 3]

  • Game 2 > 10:45 a.m.: Cougars at Lions [Christie Pits Diamond 3]

  • Game 3 > 12:00 p.m.: Tigers at Leopards [Christie Pits Diamond 3]

  • Game 4 > 1:15 p.m.: Panthers at Cheetahs [Christie Pits Diamond 3]

Parents and Players are advised that we’ll will have a P.A. system on hand so the players names will be announced during each of their at bats. At the end of the game, the players will do the traditional hand shakes and then line up again on the infield to receive their trophies.

In addition, Parents and Players are advised that our photographer will be on hand this Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon to take individual photos of players who weren’t able to attend our Photo Day session back in June. These individual photos obviously won’t be ready on Saturday, but if your child has an individual photo taken on Saturday, then we’ll give you (on Saturday) the folder with the team photo and a space for the individual photo when it’s available…we`ll be letting you know as soon as we get them.

Along with the game, all players and coaches will receive a free lunch from the TP Barbecue Zone. Please note that family members and friends will also be able to buy food and drinks from the BBQ Zone. The free lunch that the players and coaches will receive will consist of a hot dog (meat or veggie), a bag of chips, and a juice box. Some teams will eat after their game, some teams will eat before (depending upon when they play).

The Rookie Ball Lunch Schedule is as follows:

  • 11:00 a.m. > Jaguars and Bobcats
  • 11:30 a.m. > Tigers and Leopards
  • 12:15 p.m. > Cougars and Lions
  • 12:45 p.m. > Panthers and Cheetahs

If your team is eating after your game, then after receiving their trophies, we’re asking the coaches to find a spot beside the diamond where each team can sit together to receive their lunch. We will also be giving the coaches the photos at that time to be distributed. In terms of receiving the food, we’d like one or two parents/coaches from each team to come to the BBQ Zone and place the team order, and then pick the entire order up when ready and take it to wherever the team is sitting. This makes it much less confusing and hectic for the volunteers preparing the food and everyone will get their lunch sooner.

If your team is eating before your game, then we would like the coaches to please ask your players to arrive at the park ten minutes before your scheduled LUNCH (NOT GAME) time and wait for them near the big tree on the hill beside Diamond 3…when a critical mass is there, we’ll help you get the lunch order organized. These teams will receive their photos after their game and trophy presentation.

Now, in terms of the BBQ, it would be great if we had some parents who could volunteer to grill the hot dogs/veggie dogs and help organize the chips and drinks into team orders. If you would be willing to help out for a half hour or hour (obviously not when your Rookie Baller is playing!), then please let us know at tpbaseball@gmail.com.

The TP Baseball Committee thanks you very much for your participation and support of our house league program this season, and we hope to see most of you on Saturday at our Rookie Ball Celebration Day!
