IN A RAINY AFFAIR, THE RIVERDOGS TAKE A FIVE RUN BITE OUT OF TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS IN THE FOURTH INNING TO TAKE THE VICTORY AT SMYTHE PARK

Beneath a canopy of warm, cloudy and drizzly skies, the York Riverdogs defeated our Toronto Playgrounds Mosquito Selects 8-4 in five innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Select Loop action this evening at rain soaked Smythe Park.

Trailing 4-3, York doggedly rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fourth to retake the lead 8-4.

Refusing to raise the white flag of surrender, TP gamely loaded the bases in the top of the fifth with the tying run at the plate. However, the Riverdogs bullpen diffused the threat and left the bases loaded.

Here are some additional game highlights:

  • The scheduled 6:00 p.m. game was delayed for twenty minutes as both teams awaited the arrival of umpires to officiate the proceedings.
  • Half the game was played in the rain.
  • With Cy Young authority, TP Mosquito Select pitchers Jamie (52), Jashan (3) and Theo (17) combined to hold the potent Riverdogs batting order to only three runs through the first three innings.
  • Cameron (26) went 1 for 3 at the plate with a clutch RBI single in the third that tied the game 2-2. Subsequently, Cameron would score from third on a passed ball to put TP ahead 3-2.

During the Victoria Day long weekend, the TP Mosquito Selects (1-1) return to the friendly confines of Christie Pits Diamond 2 on Sunday, May 17 to play host to the Weston Wolverines at 3:00 p.m.
