THE GO GO LIZZIES SLIP BY THE SUAVE METROPOLITANS FOR THE VICTORY AT CHRISTIE PITS
Game Post composed with file from Mike Lapenna
Under a ceiling of quaint and reflective Spring skies, the Lizzies edged the Mets 4-3 in four innings of Peewee Division play this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.
Here are the highlights:
- One Lizzies player noted at the end of the proceedings: “That’s the lowest scoring game I’ve ever played at TP!”
- Why? The game boiled down to a pitchers duel where a total of only seven runs were scored by both teams. Thus, any runs scored came at a high premium.
- The Mets starting pitcher set down the Lizzies in 3 up & 3 down fashion in top of the first.
- In the bottom of the third, the Lizzies reliever got out of the inning by utilizing only five pitches to retire the Mets: 2 pitches = ground out for the first out; one pitch = ground out for the second out; 2 pitches = ground out for the third out.
- Very few errors committed overall. A total of four for both teams during the whole game.
- Great play by the Mets defense: On a grounder to the first baseman, the Metropolitans pitcher hustled to first base to catch an underhanded throw from the first baseman just in time for the out.
- In the final inning, with bases loaded, the Lizzies brazenly attempted a grand theft steal of home. However, the Mets tagged out the Lizzies baserunner.
