Under the lights on a warm Spring night, the Rockies edged the Giants 12-11 in a thrilling four inning Peewee Division nail biter tonight at Christie Pits Diamond 2.
Here is a Rockies account of the proceedings:
- Several Rockies stood out in the 12-11 thrilling walk-off victory over the Giants tonight.
- Jake was the big hero, with his two run single in the bottom of the fourth that ended the game.
- As well, Jake also made two sparkling defensive plays in the first inning, turning two would be doubles into outs at first base helped by steady glove work from Griff (11) at first.
- The big boppers for the Rockies were Matthew (10) who slammed a double to the fence in left field and Alexander (14) who sparked the game winning rally in the fourth with a triple hit into the nether regions of Christie Pits Diamond 3.
- Kudos to Rockies catcher Gabriel (8) who caught three innings and really helped control the Giant’s running game.
Here is the Giants account of the game:
-
In the bottom of the first, Giants starter Leo (5) made his pitching debut on the mound for the Giants. The highlight came when Leo scooped up a grounder hit by the second Rockies batter and quickly tossed it to Emilie (8) at first base for the out.
-
In the top of the second, the Giants’ bats came alive in a big way. With two runners on, Mark (9) smashed a deep double to right field that scored Jonah (15) and moved Emilie from first to third. Next up was Piper (4), who hammered a triple to deep left field, cashing in Emilie. Mark and Piper later stole home, and that meant four runs in for the Giants.
-
Giants reliever Will (13) pitched the bottom of the second, and it was a shutout inning for the flame-throwing righty.
-
In a nice play, Jonah scrambled to scoop up a grounder near first base in the second to put the first Rockies batter out.
-
The Giants hit parade continued in the top of the third, when Sam (11) singled, followed by a walk by Rachel (7). Then Cameron (3) launched a bomb to deep left field. It was the game’s deepest hit, and scored both Sam and Rachel, while Cameron made it all the way to third. Will followed with a single that scored Cameron. And Will completed the four-run inning by stealing home.
-
In the bottom of the third, Leo flashed some serious leather at first base, hustling from his position on the other side of the first base bag and all the way to the fence to catch a foul ball.
-
In the top of the fourth, the Giants pulled ahead by three, after Jonah singled, Emilie walked, Mark singled and Piper doubled. Jonah, Emilie and Mark scored.
-
It was almost enough for a Giants victory, but the Rockies powered back with a four-run bottom of the fourth to grab a narrow victory.
