THE BLUEBIRDS TAKE FLIGHT AND EMERGE WITH A HARD FOUGHT VICTORY OVER THE M’s AT BICKFORD PARK
Beneath a veil of warm and sunny skies, the Jays prevailed for an 11-9 victory over the Mariners in 3 ½ innings of Mosquito Division action this evening at the Bickford Park South Diamond.
In a fun and exciting rollercoaster affair contested by two talented and well coached teams, the Jays emerged with the hard fought victory after rallying for four runs in the bottom of the third to retake the lead and keeping the Mariners at bay in the top of the fourth.
The Mariners jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage in the top of the first. After a one out single and stolen base, Coleman (13) would bolt homeward with the first run of the game after a Jays error resulted from his brazen theft of third base.
Subsequently, with two runners on base, Ben (10) would deliver Jude (3) home on a fielder’s choice. Later, a RBI single by Eshetu (15) would deliver Ben home.
With a little defensive help from his friends, Jays starter Jeremy (4) struck out one during the inning to quell the Mariners uprising.
The Jays feasted upon a Mandarin buffet offering of four walks served up by the Jays in the bottom of the first to tie the game. Both Vincent (7) and Lucas (1) led off the frame with back to walks. Due to some lackadaisical defense, both Vincent and Lucas would come home to roost on respective steals of home.
With one out, Theo (2) would draw a walk and steal two bases to reach third. A Mariners error on Theo’s theft of third would allow him to hustle home with the tying run.
M’s starter Coleman (13) would strike out two to subdue the Jays revolt.
The Mariners answered back with a pair in the top of the second to take a 5-3 lead. After leading off the inning with three consecutive walks to load the bases, Reed (1) stroked a two out RBI single to bring home Callum (2) with the go ahead run. Kai (8) would follow with a RBI walk to plate Alexander (5).
Shaken, but not stirred, Jays reliever Joshua (3) would find the groove and mow down three with a Toro TimeCutter MX5050 Zero-Turn Riding Mower to leave the bases loaded and subdue the Mariners insurgency.
However, the Jays answered back with four in the bottom of the second to retake the lead 7-5. After a single by Jeremy and a double by James (13) to lead off the inning, Andre (6) crushed a dramatic three run home run shot to the deep dish pizza nether regions of right field to give the Jays a 6-5 advantage.
Later, after a single and a pair of stolen bases by Joshua (3), Ibrahim (8) would deliver a sacrifice hit that allowed Joshua to motor home with the final run of the frame.
In a good effort, M’s reliever Eshetu (15) struck out one to keep the Jays on their perch.
The Mariners gorged upon a scrumptious dessert tray offering of seven consecutive walks baked up the Jays in the top of the third and explode for four in the top of the third to seize the lead 9-7. After singling to lead off the frame, Max (14) would reach third and come home to roost on a Jays error. Later, with one out, Jude would bolt homeward with the tying run after a Jays attempt to catch him stealing third sailed down the third base line.
Subsequently, with the bases juiced to the gills, Callum drew a RBI walk that brought Liam M. home and put the M’s up 8-7. An ensuing wild pitch would allow Ben to motor homeward bound.
Despite the end result, Jays reliever Elliot (12) still put in a spirited effort on the mound against the M’s. The Jays are still the ONLY house league team in our four older age divisions who have given every player on their roster an opportunity to pitch this season. Way to go, Jays!!!
With their rally caps donned, the Jays pounced upon four walks issued by the Mariners to scored four in the bottom of the third and retake the lead 11-9. After Noah (9) and Vincent led off the inning with a pair of walks to put two ducks on the pond, Noah would blaze home on a M’s error to cut the deficit to one. Throwing caution to the wind, Vincent would brazenly steal home to tie the proceedings.
Subsequently, with two outs and two Jays on the base paths, an errant Mariners pickoff attempt went awry and allowed Luz (5) and Theo to come homeward bound with the go ahead runs.
In a bold effort, M’s reliever Cassius (4) struck out two during the frame to keep the Jays at the birdfeeder.
Jays reliever Noah (9) would keep the Mariners off the scoresheet in the bottom of the fourth as he struck out two to seal the deal on a hard fought win over a pesky opponent.
