Game Post composed with files from Jeff Kolyn and Diane McCallum

Beneath a layer of hazy and cloudy skies, the Jays topped the Rays 12-5 in four innings of Mosquito Division play this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 3.

Here is a Jays summary of the proceedings:

  • The Jays scored four in the top of the first to take an early 4-0 lead. Lucas (1) had a smash single to left, and stole second and third. Joshua (3) walked and stole second, and Ibrahim (8) walked to load the bases. Matthew (11) hit an infield single to score the first run,. Luz (5) followed it up with an bases loaded walk, and Noah (9) had a fielders choice RBI (force out at third base). Noah then stole second base, and Theo (2) walked on a full count pitch to reload the bases. Vincent (7) battled hard and drew a bases loaded walk for the final run of the inning.

  • In the bottom of the first, Jays starter Ibrahim (8) pitched a scoreless inning and had two strikeouts that book ended a caught stealing at second by Joshua (caught by Vincent with the perfect tag).

  • Top of the second, Andre (6) smashed a single to centre field, then stole second and third base. Lucas walked and stole second, and Joshua followed up with a walk to load the bases. Ibrahim was hit by a pitch for the RBI. Matthew followed up with another RBI single, and Luz finished it off with a bases loaded walk.

  • Jays reliever Matthew (11) entered the fray in the bottom of the second and allowed just one run scored while striking out two Rays.

  • But the highlight of the night came during the second from Luz and Andre. Luz ran into the gap and grabbed a sure double. Luz then fired the ball to second base on a perfect line and Andre grabbed it and tagged the runner out at second base.

  • Noah starts off the top of the third with a hit and stolen base. Ernesto (15) then walked and stole second and then third after Theo hit an RBI single. Theo stole second base, Vincent walked, and Andre and Lucas followed that up with a bases loaded walks each. Joshua finished the inning with a solid hit to right field to finish the rally.

  • In the bottom of the third, Jays reliever Lucas (1) pitched a one-two-three inning on three straight strikeouts. It was quite impressive.

  • Top of the fourth, the Jays loaded the bases, with a walk (two SB’s) by Ibrahim, Ernesto hit by pitch, and Theo another full count walk, but they couldn’t score.

  • The Devil Rays rallied for 4four runs in the bottom of the fourth. However, Jays closer Vincent (7) eventually found the groove and nailed it down after giving up four runs with no outs. Vincent settled in to strike out three batters to seal the deal.
