Lizzies game summary by Mike Lapenna

  • Summer vacations have brought diminished rosters with Giants and Lizzies lending each other outfielders.
  • The game featured pitchers and catchers getting their debut.
  • It was a relatively tame affair until the last inning, when twelve runs were scored!
  • In the top of the fourth, despite being down by three, the Lizzies managed to score seven runs to force Giants into their last bats.
  • The Giants countered with five in the bottom of the fourth to secure a much needed win.
  • In those last bats, the Giants should have had a clear home run, with a bomb up the Bickford Park hill in left field, but the ball bounced onto the blanket of nearby spectators. They respectfully passed the ball back, causing a ground rule double.
  • It was one of more exciting games to date with it being more of hitting bonanza rather than a pitchers duel.

In a good effort, Lizzies reliever Jonathan (13) and his defense retired two Giants during the inning. However, the Mighty Giants replied with four in the bottom of the third to regain the lead 8-5. After Aidan (10) walked and Curtis reached base on a dropped third strike to lead off the frame and put two ducks on the pond, Leo hit a RBI single to plate Aidan and tie the game.

Subsequently, Leo would take advantage of a Lizzies miscue to blaze homeward from third with the Giants winning run to bring the curtain down a WILD WILD WEST shootout at the Bickford Park Corrall.
