Under a blanket of warm and sunny skies, the Lizzies defeated the Angels 8-5 in 3 ½ innings of Mosquito Division action this evening at the Bickford Park diamond.

In an entertaining and well contested affair by two talented and well coached teams, the Lizzies rallied from a 5-4 deficit in the third inning to usurp the pesky Angels for the victory.

The Angels jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. After Matthew (11) singled and Aidan (10) walked to lead off the inning, Myles (3) stroked a RBI single to bring Matthew home with the opening run of the game.

Lizzies starter Cameron (6) would strike out two to subdue the Halos uprising.

In the bottom of the first, the Lizzies replied to the Angels salvo by scoring four to take a 4-1 lead. After Felix (3), Dajuan (7) and Dylan (8) drew consecutive walks with one out to load the bases, Kazou (10) stepped into the batter’s box to power a 2 RBI double that allowed Felix and Dajuan to motor home and give the Lizzies the lead.

After a walk to Liam (11) reloaded the bases, Cameron would be hit by pitch with two outs allowing Dylan to shimmy homeward. Sam (12) would follow with a RBI walk to plate Kazou.

In a spirited effort, Angels starter Maggie (4) struck out two during the inning.

However, the Angels put on their red shoes in the top of the second and rallied with four runs to retake the lead 5-4. After Kiran (5) walked, Julien (8) singled and Maggie walked to lead off the inning and load the bases, Jack (10) would launch a 2 RBI double to deliver Kiran and Julien home. On the play, the Lizzies committed an error that allowed Maggie to come homeward bound with the tying run.

After Alex (9) drew a walk to put two ducks on the pond, Matthew hit a RBI single that allowed Jack to come home with the go ahead run.

Angels reliever Julien (8) would mow down three Lizzies in the bottom of the second with a Toro TimeCutterSWX4250 Riding Lawn Mower to keep them off the scoreboard.

Lizzies southpaw reliever Sam (12) would strike out one in the top of the third to keep the Angels off the scoresheet.

Down by a run and with the game on the line, the Lizzies donned their rally caps in the bottom of the third and scored four to take an 8-5 lead. After Felix and Dajuan drew a pair of walks to lead off the frame, a Halos error would allow Felix to blaze home with the tying run.

After a single by Dylan put two Lizzies on the basepaths, Kazou delivered a grace under pressure RBI single that allowed Dajuan to motor home with the go ahead score.

After Liam garnered a walk to load the bases. Sebastian (2) would be hit by pitch allowing Dylan to come homeward with an insurance run. Cameron would follow with a RBI walk that plated Kazou.

Nevertheless, the Angels refused to surrender in the top of the fourth as they gamely garnered three walks in a determined comeback bid.

However, the Lizzies defense shone brightly as they recorded a nifty 2-5 putout play to record the first out. With one out, an Angels base runner on second base made a brazen bid to steal third. With the reflexes of a jaguar, Lizzies catcher Dylan made a cannon throw to third baseman Cameron, who applied the tag on the sliding Lizzie for the out.

With two base runners aboard, Lizzies closer Kazou (10) would strike out two to seal the deal on a hard fought victory over the Halos.
