THE MAJESTIC ROYALS PREVAIL FOR THE SEMI-FINAL VICTORY OVER THE GO GO LIZZIES AT CHRISTIE PITS TO ADVANCE TO A CHAMPIONSHIP GAME SHOWDOWN AGAINST THE ANGELS

ROYAL POWER > Kaenoa (3) [top] powered the Royals offensive assault against the Lizzies by going 2 for 2 at the plate [double, home run] with a run scored and 4 RBI's; Jade (1) smoked a 2 RBI triple to centre field in the fifth inning to give the Royals some insurance runs. Jade went 1 for 2 at the dish with a run scored and 2 RBI's.

Jade went 1 for 2 at the dish with a run scored and 2 RBI’s.

Under a ceiling of warm and sunny skies, the Royals defeated the Lizzies 9-2 in five innings of Mosquito Division Semi-final action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 3 to advance to the Toronto Playgrounds House League Baseball Championship Game against the Angels.

Here is a game summary of the proceedings courtesy of Vincent Lynch:

  • The Royals started in the top of the first with Rory (2) leading off the game with a single. After Rory stole second, Callum (13) followed with RBI single. After Jackson (8) walked to put two runners on base, Kaenoa (3) came up to bat and smashed one down the third base line for a double and 2 RBI’s to give the Royals an early 3-0 lead.
  • Lizzies starter Jamie (15) struck out two to close out the top of the first.
  • The Lizzies would rally for a run in the bottom of the first to trim the deficit to two. After garnering a lead off walk, Luca P. (1) would steal two bases to advance to third. Jamie followed and smashed a sacrifice hit toward second base, where Royals second baseman Parker (10) scooped it up and made the throw to first to get the out. However, Luca P, came home on the play.
  • After that Royals starter James (6) settled down and struck out the next two Lizzies to keep the score at 3-1.
  • In the top of the second, Lizzies reliever Shamus (9) struck out the first two Royals. Then Shamus brushed Elayna (10) with a pitch to put her on base. After Elayna stole second, Matthew (5) crushed a line drive. However,  Lizzies shortstop Cameron (6) leapt in the air and hauled it down to retire the Royals.
  • Royals reliever Lewis (11) would retire three Lizzies in 1-2-3 fashion in the bottom of the second to keep the game at 3-1 after two innings.
  • Lizzies reliever Sam (12) would dispatch the Royals quietly in the top of the third by strking out two. Sam also got Rory to ground out on a sharply hit ball to first.
  • In the bottom of the third, Royals reliever Jashan (9) had a clean inning to keep the score at 3-1.
  • With Lizzies pitcher Jamie re-entering the fray in the top of the fourth,  Jackson (8) got on base with a two out single. Then, Kaenoa came up and smashed a ball right down the first baseline that just kept going, and going! Kaenoa touched all the bases to register a home run and 2 RBI’s to give the Royals a 5-1 lead. Jamie then managed to get the last out to close out the inning.
  • Royals pitcher James (6) stymied the Lizzies in the bottom of the fourth by giving a hit but no runs to preserve the 5-1 lead.
  • In the top the of the fifth, the Royals bats came alive as they scored four insurance runs to widen their lead to 9-2. After getting a two out single, Matthew proceeded to steal second, third and home! After Parker (10) and Dashielle (15) walked to put two Royals on the pond, Jade (1) smoked a grace under pressure long fly ball to centre field for a stand up triple and 2 RBI’s. Then Rory (2) got a clutch RBI double to bring Jade home.
  • After surrendering a run to Sebastian (2), Royals pitcher Lewis shut down the Lizzies in the bottom of the fifth to seal the deal on the semi-final win.
