A Message to our TP House League Baseball Family:

Our 2015 House League baseball season officially ended this past Sunday with the playing of our Mosquito Division Championship Game. Upon reflection, it was a really fantastic season and I’d like to thank all of the players, coaches, parents, umpires, and committee members for all of their efforts over these past months.

Now, one of the (few) unfortunate turn of events was that, because of all the rain and cancelled games two weekends ago, we weren’t able to have our annual ‘September Madness’ tournament BBQ and give a free lunch to each of the Mosquito, Peewee, Bantam, and Midget division players and coaches. Judging by the number of times I was asked over the last week “when are we getting our hot dogs?”, I wasn’t the only one who noticed. Well, here’s what we’re going to do about it.

This Sunday, September 27, we’re going to be holding the Toronto Playgrounds House League Baseball End-of-Season Appreciation BBQ, Baseball Challenge, and Lucky Draw event! The event is scheduled to run from 12:00 noon until 3:00 p.m. Both players and parents will be able to drop in at festivities at whatever time is good for them.

Interested players will be able to take our House League Baseball Challenge. Each player who wants to participate will be given the chance to hit five pitches from the pitching machine, throw five balls for distance, and throw five balls for accuracy. We’ll record the distances of the longest hit and the longest throw, and also record the number of throws for accuracy that hit the target. Players’ results won’t be compared to other players…that’s not the point of the challenge. We’ll keep the results and challenge each player to come out to a similar event next spring during our pre-season period and see if they can do better than they did this fall.

After completing the challenge, house league players from our respective Mosquito, Peewee, Bantam and Midget divisions can go to the TP Baseball BBQ Zone and receive their free lunch. Coaches will also get free lunches. Food and drinks will also be for sale to parents and friends attending the event.

Along with getting their free lunch, players can also enter our lucky draw. The prize will be a free house league registration for next season. The prize draw will be done at the end of the event.

All players can also have their free lunch and enter the lucky prize draw without taking the ‘House League Baseball Challenge’ if they’d prefer to do that.

Now this event sounds like a lot of fun, and I’m sure it will be. But it’s also something that requires a lot of person-power to run. So, if you’re able to help with either one of the challenge stations or at the BBQ Zone for half-an-hour or an hour on Sunday, please let us know by return e-mail at tpbaseball@gmail.com.

We want this to be a big success, because the ‘Appreciation’ aspect is the appreciation we have for all of the great participation and involvement we received from all of you all season. So, let us know as soon as you can if you’re able to help out this Sunday!

If you wish to volunteer or have any questions, please contact us at tpbaseball@gmail.com.

Thanks,
