DOWN 5-3, THE NITTY GRITTY EXPOS RALLY FOR FOUR IN THE FOURTH INNING AND HANG ON FOR THE OPENING DAY VICTORY OVER THE MIGHTY GIANTS AT CHRISTIE PITS
Under a ceiling of warm and hazy skies, the Expos defeated the Giants 7-5 in 4 ½ innings of Peewee Division action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2. Trailing 5-3, the Expos took advantage of a Mandarin buffet serving of five walks, a hit and a dropped third strike to rally for four runs in the bottom half of the fourth to take a 7-5 lead. After Charlie (7) led off the frame with a single and had stolen second and third, Harris (12) followed and reached base on a dropped third strike. Subsequently, with base runners at third and second, the Giants uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Harris to advance to third and Charlie to blaze home and trim the deficit to one.
At this juncture, Andy (1) and Cooper (2) drew back to back walks to load the bases. Jonathan (3) followed and hit into a 4-6 fielder’s choice at second base which allowed Harris to come home with the tying run.
Following a walk to Juan (13) which reloaded the bases, William (9) drew an one out RBI walk which allowed Andy to saunter homeward and give the Expos a 6-5 advantage. Gabe (4) followed with a RBI walk that permitted Jonathan to come home to roost with an insurance run.
Expos closer Daniel (8) would strike out two Giants in the top of the fifth to seal the deal on a hard fought win over a tough opponent.
