Here is a Lizzies log of the battle:
- It was a superb Spring evening for baseball under the Christie Pits lights as the Peewee Division Lizzies took on the Pirates in their regular season opener on Monday night.
- The Lizzies saw Jamie (13) make a great fielding play on a grounder to first by the Pirates in the top of the first.
- This was followed by a well executed pick off at third base later in the inning, involving Lizzies starting pitcher Nicolas (3), third baseman Josh (4) and catcher Taio (8). As a result, the Pirates were held to just one run.
- Jamie shone in the bottom of the first again with a lead off walk and a run for the Cubs.
- In top of the second, Lizzies reliever Ethan (7) made his presence felt immediately by striking out the first Pirates batter. The Pirates later rallied with four runs in the frame to take a 5-1 lead.
- Cubs reliever Jamie mowed down three Bucs on three strikeouts to keep the Pirates off the scoreboard in the top of the third.
- Parker (1) of the Cubs walked and stole two bases in the bottom of the third.
- In the top of fourth, Cubs reliever Zenon (9) knocked out his first batter with a K. However, the Pirates plated four runs.
- The Lizzies rallied in the bottom of the fourth with Jona (6) stealing two bases and Nicolas and Ethan each racking up an RBI.
- Final score: Pirates 9 Lizzies 4
