Beneath the incandescent lights illuminating the field of dreams on a gorgeous late Spring night, the A’s edged the Royals 8-7 in a thrilling three inning Mosquito Division game at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Here is an A’s account of the proceedings:

  • It was an exciting night of Mosquito Division baseball at Christie Pits Diamond 2 as the A’s and Royals battled it out in tooth and nail fashion, with each team exchanging the lead over three impressive innings of play.
  • Facing a rough and tough Royals batting order, A’s starter Pitcher Mekai (14) chalked up two strikeouts in the top of the first. However, the Royals scored four with some aggressive base running to take an early lead.
  • In the bottom of the first, Dashiell (3) opened the A’s scoring with an RBI hit. Jonas (8) scored a run with some of his own aggressive base running to trim the margin to two.
  • A’s reliever Eric (6) held the Royals off the scoreboard in the top of the second by striking out two. Eric also caught a well hit comebacker to the mound and had the wherewithal to make a throw to first baseman Pasha (7) to record the third out.
  • Showing keen eyes and patience at the dish, the A’s sent seven batters to the plate in the bottom of the second and scored four to take a 6-4 lead. The highlight of the A’s rally was hard sliding Elias (13) hard and aggressive slide to tie the game.
  • Despite a strong pitching performance by A’s reliever Pasha (7) in the top of the third, the gritty Royals would not go quietly into the night as they scored three to retake the lead 7-6.
  • After rallying for three runs, the Royals were poised to add their lead, but a great defensive play at the plate by A’s catcher Eric and a timely strikeout by Pasha kept the A’s within striking distance as the Athletics offence prepared for an exciting finish.
  • With focus and resolve, the pesky A’s sent eight batters to the plate in the bottom of the third against a hard throwing Royals’ closer. After the A’s tied the proceedings, Noah (4) displayed awesome plate discipline by delivering the grace under pressure game winning RBI to give the A’s their first victory of the season against a tough as nails Royals team.
