DOWN 6-0, THE GNARLY BUCCANEERS CLAW BACK WITH SEVEN UNASWERED RUNS TO UPEND THE CUBBIES AT BICKFORD PARK
Beneath a canopy of sunny and hazy skies, the Pirates rallied with Jolly Roger aplomb to edge the Cubs 7-6 in four thrilling innings of Peewee Division action this evening on the shimmery shores of Bickford Park South Diamond Bay.Trailing 6-4, the never say die Pirates would bullyrag themselves back into the game in the bottom of the fourth. After leading off the frame with a walk, Daniel (12) would brazenly steal his way around the basepaths to come home to roost at the mizzenmast and trim the deficit to one.
After Lucas (15), Liam (5) and Dylan (7) drew consecutive walks to load the bases, Jackson (8) would use his bat like a cat o’nine tails to deliver a 2 RBI single that allowed Lucas and Liam to blaze homeward bound to the Captain’s Mess with the Buccaneers tying and game winning runs.
The proceeding was well contested affair from start to finish between two talented and well coached teams. The Cubs used their power and defense to dominate the early portion of the game in exciting fashion. Down 6-0, the Pirates battened down the hatches on the Cubbies in the latter innings and charted a meticulous course of action to rally for the win.
In the top of the first, the Cubs would stake themselves to an early 2-0 lead. After Savannah (10) drew a one out walk, Tristan (6) blasted a majestic two run home run shot to the deep dish pizza nether regions of centre field.
Pirates starter Dylan (7) would strike out one in the first to quell the Cubs insurgency.
Cubs starter Jack (8) would strike out one in the bottom of the first to keep the Bucs off the scoring ledger and in the brig.
Jack was helped out immeasurably by some stellar defense from his teammates during the inning. Cubs catcher Julius (11) [a Mosquito call up from the Twins] combined with third baseman Tristan and shortstop Griff (15) a nice 2-5-6 putout play on a wayfaring Pirates baserunner to ring up the first out. Later, Julius would fire a bullet to Tristan, who would tag out a Buc trying to steal third base for the third out of the frame.
The Cubs would tack on four more in the top of the second to widen their advantage to 6-0. After Felix (2) led off the inning with a walk, Julius would stroke a RBI double to bring him home.
Following a walk to Jashan (12) that would put two aboard, Matthew (14) stepped into the batter’s box and launched a three run home run blast to the deepest black hole of centre field.
Refusing to wave the white flag of surrender, the Pirates would feast upon a delicious salmagungi serving of seven walks in the bottom of the second to rally with four runs to slice the deficit to two. After drawing a lead off walk, Francis (2) would swipe a pair of bases to reach third. A wild pitch would open the door for him to motor home with the Bucs first run.
With one out, Loyan (6) would draw a walk and reach third via a wild pitch and stolen base. A Cubs error would open the portal for Loyan to teleport home.
Aiden (1), Daniel and Lucas would garner consecutive walks to load the bases. Liam and Dylan would follow with back to back RBI walks to bring home Aiden and Daniel.
In a spirited foray on the hill, Cubs reliever Tristan (6) would strike out one in the second.
Pirates reliever Francis (2) would strike out three in the top of the third to keep the Cubs off the scoreboard.
Cubs reliever Savannah (10) would strike out one in the bottom of the third to keep the Bucs off the scoresheet and below deck.
Pirates reliever Jackson (8) would strike out two in the top of the fourth to keep the Cubs paws out of the honey jar.
