Under a ceiling of warm and tranquil summer skies, the Pirates defeated the Mets 11-4 in four innings of Peewee Division action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Here is a Mets account of the proceedings:

Despite ending the regular season with a loss, the recent run of games shows the Mets to be at a good stage of development as they head into the playoffs.

  • Mets lead off hitter Isaac (4) hit a high fly to right field and later drew a walk that forced in a run. Isaac reached base in 10 of 11 games played this season.
  • Teddy (12) ground out twice, but that made 13 consecutive plate appearances where he has walked, singled, or put the ball in play. Ted has not struck out since July 11.
  • Devin (8), after an absence, came out swinging, but could not extend his streak of seven plate appearances of reaching base or putting the ball in play. Devin has reached base safely in six of eight games played this year.
  • Roland (11) put the ball in play twice, reaching base once on a bobbled throw, hustling to the bag before the ball could be corralled. He later scored. Roland also caught two innings, the highlight being when he retrieved a dropped third strike and made a lunging tag to negate a Pirate runner at home plate.
  • In the first inning, Mets starting pitcher James (9) struck out two batters and fielded a ground ball to record the third out. At the plate, James had a sacrifice grounder that scored Roland, and later hit a single. James reached base in all eight games he played this season.
  • Thomas (7) walked and scored a run. He has reached base or put the ball in play all seven games he played this year.
  • Alden (13) made two fine fielding plays at first base, recording two unassisted putouts in support of his pitcher, Teddy. He also singled and scored on a steal of home.
  • Emilia (5) drew a bases-loaded walk in her lone plate appearance, garnering an RBI. Emilia reached base her last 12 trips to the plate, last batting for an out on July 4. Emilia reached base in all 11 games she played this season.
  • Leandro (10) had another remarkable mound appearance, striking out four batters in the final inning (one of which reached base on a dropped third strike). Leandro has struck out 10 batters and allowed only three runs in his final three innings pitched this year.
  • Special thanks to Mosquito sub Vince, who walked and scored, and skillfully caught two innings behind the plate.
The Mets look forward to the imminent playoff return of up-and-coming pitchers Jack (1) and Jade (6), catching stalwart Mathew A. (2), superb glove man Matthew D. (14), and the speedy Petra (3).
