TRAILING 10-5, THE MIGHTY GIANTS STAGE A MIRACLE SIX RUN RALLY IN THE FINAL INNING TO UPEND THE GRITTY EXPOS AT CHRISTIE PITS

Down 10-8 and with the bases loaded, Ben P. (11) connects for a 3 RBI triple in the bottom of the fourth inning to complete the Giants comeback victory over the Expos during a Peewee Division round robin tournament game at Christie Pits Diamond 2. Ben P. powered the Giants offense by going 2 for 3 [single, triple] at the dish with a run scored and 3 RBI's. Ben P. also pitched two strong innings of relief to keep the game close give the Giants an opportunity to rally in the final frame.

Beneath a serene ceiling of warm summer skies, the Giants edged the Expos 11-10 in four exciting innings of Peewee Division round robin tournament action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Down 10-5 and with their backs against the wall, the pesky Giants rallied in grand fashion to overtake the gritty Expos in the bottom of the fourth. Jake C. (5), Max (10) and Eamon (1) would garner consecutive walks to lead off the inning and load the bases. Jake M.P. (6) would follow with a RBI single to plate Jake C.

With no outs and the bases still loaded, the Expos uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Eamon and Jake M.P. to move up a base and Max to come home to roost.

Following a walk to Oliver (12) that reloaded the bases, Rowan (8) drew a RBI walk that allowed Eamon to shuffle homeward and trim the deficit to two.

With the bases juiced to the gills, Ben P. (11) entered the batter’s box and delivered a grace under pressure bases clearing 3 RBI triple into the darkness of the night to bring home the Giants tying and game winning runs.

On the opening evening of the end of season tournament, the proceeding was a entertaining affair that was contested by two talented and well coached teams. After the dust had finally settled on the diamond, this round robin game was befitting of the tradition of ‘September Madness’.

In the top of the first inning, the Expos staked themselves to an early 4-0 lead. Following a one out triple by Jonathan (3) and a two out walk by Charlie (7) that put two aboard, Harris (12) delivered a clutch 2 RBI double to bring them home.

After a pair of walks to William (9) and Cameron (5) that loaded the bases, Cooper (2) and Matthew (14) earned a pair of RBI walks to bring Harris and William home.

In a workmanlike effort, Giants starter Gabriel (9) would strike out two in the first inning.

The Giants would answer back with three in the bottom of the first to trim the shortfall to one. Following a lead off walk by Oliver and a single by Ben P. that put two ducks on the pond, Gabriel delivered a clutch two out 2 RBI single to bring them home to crow.

After Gabriel advanced to third on a steal and an error, PJ (2) garnered a walk to put two aboard. A subsequent wild pitch would allow PJ to move to second and Gabriel to come home.

Expos starter Harris (12) would strike out three in the bottom half of the first to quell the Giants uprising.

In response to the Giants salvo, the Expos would counterpunch with four in the top of the second to extend their lead to 8-3. After garnering a one out walk, Taras (11) would advance to third on a stolen base and a balk. Andy (1) followed with a  two out RBI single to bring Taras home.

Following back to back walks to Jonathan and Juan (13) that loaded the bases, Charlie delivered a bases clearing 3 RBI double that brought home Andy, Jonathan and Juan.

In a gritty foray on the hill, Giants reliever Max (10) would strike out one in the top half of the second.

During the inning, the Giants defense executed a riveting 7-2 putout to ring up the first out. After drawing a lead off walk, Elias (10) of the Expos would swipe a pair of bases to reach third. On his steal of third, the Giants throw to nab him sailed high and down the leftfield line. As Elias chugged homeward, Giants left fielder PJ retrieved the ball and made a bazooka throw to catcher Oliver, who tagged Elias out at the plate.

In the bottom of the second, the Giants would claw back with two to trim the margin to 8-5. After drawing a lead off walk, Max would swipe a pair of bases to reach third. A balk call would allow Max to shimmy homeward.

After reaching base on a dropped third strike, Jake M.P. would steal a couple of bases to advance to third. A subsequent wild pitch would open the portal for Jake M.P. to come home.

Expos reliever Charlie (7) would strike out three in the second to extinguish the Giants insurgency.

Harris would lead off the Expos top half of the third with a triple. However, Giants reliever Ben P. (11) would strike out the next three Expos in 1-2-3 fashion to leave Harris stranded.

Expos pitcher Harris would reply in kind in the bottom of the third as he struck out three Giants with 1-2-3 finesse to keep them off the basepaths.

The Expos would score a pair in the top of the fourth to widen their advantage to 10-5. Following a one out walk, Elias would move over to third after an error and a stolen base. On the steal of third, the Giants would commit a faux pas that allowed Elias to come homeward.

With two outs, Gabe (4) crushed a solo home run shot to the deep dish pizza nether regions of centre field.

Giants reliever Ben P. would strike out three in the top half of the fourth to quell the Expos insurrection.

And it was at this juncture where the Giants came face to face with their moment with destiny in the bottom of the fourth.
