IN GRAND SLAM FASHION, LOCAL BREWERY LAUNCHES CHARITY ‘RUBE GOLDBEER’ TO FINANCIALLY ASSIST OUR EFFORTS TO INSTALL LIGHTS AT CHRISTIE PITS DIAMOND 3
In a ceremony befitting the aplomb of Opening Day in the major leagues, the Henderson Brewing Company launched a new beer tonight to financially assist the Toronto Playgrounds House League Baseball ‘Lights On 3’ fundraising campaign to install lighting fixtures on Christie Pits Diamond 3.
Henderson Brewing launched a unique brew called Rube Goldbeer, an 8% abv Belgian-inspired strong ale named in honour of the Rube Goldberg machine (mounted behind the bar in the Henderson Tap room), which will play a key role in the charity promotion.
This machine uses an overly complex number of steps to open and pour a beer. For $20, the machine is loaded with a bottle of Rube Goldbeer and set off on its 42-second operation, culminating in a glass of beer for the patron at the end of the process. For each run of the machine, $10 is donated to TP House League Baseball.
With members of the TP House League Baseball Committee and many residents from the local community on hand for the festivities, Henderson Brewery General Manager Steve Himel and TP House League President Bill Evans launched the new beer in a fun ceremony using the magical Rube Goldberg machine.
Even with a generous $150,000 donation from the Jays Care Foundation, and some additional funding from the City of Toronto, it’s up to us (as a community based not for profit entity) to raise the remaining money to finance the capital expenditures for the installation of overhead lighting standards at Christie Pits Diamond 3. With 998 players registered in our House League Baseball program in 2016, and a projected 1200 registrants in 2017, the installation of lights on Diamond 3 would allow us the opportunity to offer even more baseball to the community that we serve.
With that goal in mind, generous contributions from a local partner like Henderson Brewing are an integral piece in our ‘Lights On 3’ equation.
Members of our TP House League Baseball Family who wish to check out this distinct new beer (and support our ‘Lights On 3’ fundraising drive) can visit the Henderson Brewery, which is located at 128A Sterling Road. The Henderson Tap room and Bottle Shop are open seven days a week from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. (with last call at 9:00 p.m.).
