Amidst a large and enthusiastic gathering at the annual Toronto Playgrounds House League Baseball General Membership meeting held this evening at the Bob Abate Community and Recreation Centre, the TP House League Baseball Committee announced the winners of its 2016 TP Baseball Awards for Excellence in the categories of Female Participant; Male Participant, Volunteer of the Year, and a surprise new category.

The Committee presents awards annually to people who embody the spirit and principles of our TP House League Baseball program. It gives recognition to Players, Coaches, Umpires, Parents who go beyond the call of duty and volunteer their energy and time to make our baseball program the wonderful experience that it is in our beloved community.

Iliana Dempsey-Hewett was named our 2016 Female Participant of the Year. Iliana received her award from last year’s winner, Flynn O’Dacre.

Our 2016 Male Participant of the Year Award went to Cormac Cureton. Cormac received his hardware from 2015 winner, Avery Fisher.

Michael Goldsmith was the recipient of the 2016 Volunteer of the Year Award. Paul Bagnell and Jenny Foster, the co-winners of the volunteer award last year, were both on hand to give Michael his much deserved award.

The committee also announced the introduction of a TP House League Baseball Hall of Fame, a new honour that is bestowed upon people within our community that have really made exemplary contributions to our baseball program over a long period of time. Our inaugural Hall of Fame member is Bill Evans.

It goes without question that Bill has made an  enormous contribution to our organization at both the House League and Select levels since he joined the committee in 2010. After becoming president in 2012, Bill spearheaded TP’s successful effort to receive a $150,000 financial commitment from the Jays Care Foundation for installation of lights at Christie Pits Diamond 3. Garnering the necessary funding to begin our Lights on 3 initiative is just one of many stellar achievements that Bill has tallied during his four years as our helmsman.

Here is a list of the winners of our 2016 awards:

  • 2016 FEMALE PARTICIPANT OF THE YEAR: Iliana Dempsey-Hewett
  • 2016 MALE PARTICIPANT OF THE YEAR: Cormac Cureton
  • 2016 VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR: Michael Goldsmith
  • TP HOUSE LEAGUE BASEBALL HALL OF FAME: Bill Evans

We heartily congratulate our award winners on job well done!
