TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS DEFUSE THE BOMBERS AT CHRISTIE PITS TO EARN THEIR FIFTH EBA SELECT VICTORY OF THE SEASON

With home plate umpire Jack Hewitt and Bloordale catcher Gregory (6) looking on, Brayden (33) delivers a bases loaded RBI single in the fourth inning to bring home TP’s eventual winning run over the Green at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Beneath a blanket of warm and genteel skies, the Toronto Playgrounds Minor Peewee Selects defeated the Bloordale Green 13-5 in 4 ½ innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Select action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

The proceeding was an entertaining and well played affair by two talented and well coached squads. For the first three and a half innings, the game was a tight tooth and nail battle. In the end, TP prevailed by scoring nine runs in the fourth frame to pull away for the win against a gritty opponent.

Bloordale staked themselves to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Following a pair of leadoff walks to Leighton (10) and Matthew (17) that put two aboard, Lisa (16) stroked a RBI single to bring Leighton home with the first run of the game. A subsequent TP error allowed Matthew to score from third.

The TP defence would rise to the occasion to make a pretty 2-4 putout play. As Lisa made a brazen bid to steal second, catcher Brayden (33) made a laser throw to second baseman Ezra (14), who tagged out Lisa to ring up the first out of the inning.

After issuing another pair of walks, TP starter Charlie (7) found the groove and struck out the next two batters to subdue the Green uprising.

TP would answer with a run in the bottom half of the first to cut the shortfall to one. After getting hit by pitch with two outs, Jordan (10) would proceed to steal second and third. As he slid into third bases, the Bombers defence would commit a faux pas on the play that allowed Jordan to motor homeward with TP’s first run.

Bloordale starter Ethan (88) would strike out two in the first to quash the TP mutiny.

With two baserunners aboard, TP starter Charlie would strike out three in the top of the second to keep the Bombers off the scoring ledger and in the hangar.

In the bottom of the second, TP would tally a run to deadlock the game 2-2. After garnering a two out walk, Dante (12) would steal second. A subsequent Bloordale error would allow Dante to blaze home from second base with the tying run.

Green starter Ethan would strike out three in the second to vanquish the TP insurgency.

In 1-2-3 style, TP reliever Liam (26) would strike out three in the top of the third to keep the Bombers off the scoresheet and tethered to the runway.

TP would score a pair in the bottom of the third to take a 4-2 lead. After Ezra was hit by pitch, Kieran (18) earned a two out walk that put two mallards on the lake. Jordan would follow and deliver a clutch two RBI triple to bring Ezra and Kieran home with the go ahead runs.

Bombers starter Ethan would strike out two in the third to pacify the TP rebellion.

Bloordale would reply with a run in the top of the fourth to trim the deficit to one. After Jacob (15) led off the frame with single, Josh (19) and Gregory (6) followed with back to back walks to load the bases. With one out, Isaac (14) would draw a RBI walk to plate Jacob.

With the bases juiced to the gills, TP reliever Liam would pitch himself out of a mojo jojo jam by striking out two and inducing a groundout to expunge the Bombers threat.

Taking care of business, TP would send sixteen batters to the dish in the bottom of the fourth and explode for nine runs to widen their advantage to 13-3. Following a pair of singles by Liam and Cooper (2) to lead off the inning, Dante drew a walk to load the bases. Vincent (19) would follow with a RBI walk to bring Liam home.

With the bases still juiced to overflowing, Brayden delivered a RBI single that allowed Cooper to come home. Ezra followed with a bases loaded groundout that brought Dante home to crow.

With one out and two ducks on the pond, Charlie stroked a RBI double that delivered Vince and Brayden home.

Subsequently, after hitting a two out double, Kieran would take third on steal. Jordan would follow with a RBI single that allowed Kieran to shimmy homeward.

Following a single by Theo (17) and a walk by Liam that loaded the bases, Cooper delivered a grace under pressure two RBI single.

Refusing to go quietly into the night, the Green Bombers scored a pair in the top of the fifth to trim the margin to 13-5. With two aboard, Jacob delivered a one out RBI double that brought Lisa home. With two outs and with two otters on the inlet, Gregory stroked a RBI single to plate Ahmad (7).

Shaken, but not stirred, TP closer Cooper (2) would strike out two in the fifth to seal the deal on the victory.

The TP Minor Peewee Selects (5-1) continue their homestand at Christie Pits Diamond 2 next Wednesday, June 21 when they host the Royal York Girl Cardinals at 7:00 p.m.
