SELECT > TP Minor Peewee Selects & Bloordale Gold Deadlock 13-13

IN A WALKATHON, TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS AND THE BOMBERS PLAY TO A DRAW AT CHRISTIE PITS

Down 10-9 and with the bases loaded, Jordan (10) delivers a bases clearing three RBI single in the bottom of the third to give TP a 12-10 lead over the Bloordale Gold. TP would feast upon a dozen walks issued by the Bombers during the inning and rally for nine runs to erase a 10-4 deficit.

Beneath a ceiling of warm and hazy summer skies, the Toronto Playgrounds Minor Peewee Selects and the Bloordale Gold Bombers played to a 13-13 tie in four innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Select action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

The game was a molasses type of affair where walks dominated the proceedings. Both teams were only able to muster five hits and combined for a grand total of thirty-seven walks over the course of four slow moving frames.

Luke (24) delivers a RBI single for Bloordale during their five run surge in the second inning.

Bloordale took advantage of six walks in the top of the first to jump out to an early 4-0 lead. After Anthony (3), David (6) and Hudson (17) drew consecutive walks to lead off the game and load the bases, Luke (24) followed with a RBI walk to bring Anthony home with the first run of the game.

With one out, Zachary (14) would hit into a fielder’s choice that allowed Hudson and Luke to move up base and David to score.

After Jaiden (12) drew a two out walk to reload the bases, Jonathan (20) hit a ball towards the mound. On the play, TP would commit an error that allowed Jonathan to reach base safely, Jaiden to move to third, and brought Hudson and Luke homeward with a pair of runs.

TP starter Liam (26) would induce a groundout and strike out two in the first to quell the Gold uprising.

In the bottom of the first, TP would reply with a run to trim the deficit to three. After Theo (17) drew a one out walk and had stolen a pair of bases to advance to third, he would come barreling home on a dropped third strike to Jordan (10) to score TP’s first run of the game.

Taking advantage of a TP error, Hudson (17) of the Bombers bolted from third base to slide home with a run in the second inning.

Bloordale starter Jaiden (12) would ring up a lineout, strikeout and a pickoff in the first to subdue the TP rally bid.

Taking advantage of six walks in the top of the second, the Bombers would add five to their scoring ledger to increase their lead to 9-1.  With one out, Anthony, David and Hudson would draw a gerrymander of walks to load the bases. Luke and Stephen (47) would follow with respective RBI walks to plate Anthony and David.

With the bases still juiced to the gills, TP would commit a faux pas that allowed Hudson to bolt home from third with another run.

After Zachary drew a free pass to reload the bases, Jaiden and Jonathan would garner back to back RBI walks to bring home Luke and Stephen.

TP reliever Charlie (7) would enter the fray in the second and chalk up a groundout and strikeout to extinguish the Bombers insurgency.

Camille (11) hustles down the first baseline on a dropped third strike to reach base safely in the second inning.

Refusing to surrender, TP would answer with three in the bottom of the second to slice the margin to 9-4. After Dante (12) led off the frame with a walk and stolen base, Camille (11) would hustle down the line on a dropped third strike to reach base safely and put two ducks on the pond. Following a steal of second by Camille, Ian (33) would hit into a fielder’s choice that advanced Camille to third and brought Dante home to roost.

Following a one out walk to Miles (23) that put two aboard, Rowan (7) connected for a RBI single that brought Camille home to crow. Subsequently, Charlie would deliver a two out RBI single to plate Miles.

Bombers starter Jaiden would ring up a series of groundouts in the second to silence the TP rebellion.

In the top of the third, the Gold would add a run to widen its advantage to 10-4. Sawyer (2), Shamus (10) and Anthony would draw walks to open the inning and load the bases. David would follow and hit into a fielder’s choice to plate Sawyer.

Ian (33) drives home a run for TP on a fielder’s choice in the second inning.

With one out, TP reliever Charlie would strike out two in the third  to douse the Bloordale mutiny.

Feasting upon a Mandarin buffet serving of twelve walks issued by the Bombers, TP would rally for nine runs in the bottom of the third to take a 13-10 lead. Liam, Dante and Camille would garner three consecutive walks to lead off the inning and load the bases. Ian, Miles and Rowan would follow with respective RBI walks to bring Liam, Dante and Camille homeward.

With the bases still juiced to overflowing, Charlie and Theo would draw a pair of RBI walks to plate Ian and Miles.

Down 10-9 and with the bases still loaded, Jordan would step into the batter’s box and deliver a three RBI single to bring Rowan, Charlie and Theo home with the go ahead runs.

With one out, Liam, Dante and Camille would earn consecutive walks to reload the bases. Subsequently, Miles would draw a two out walk that brought Liam home with another run.

Bloordale reliever Jonathan (20) would enter the game in the third and strike out two to subdue the TP insurrection.

TP and Bloordale congratulate each other on a great game.

Taking advantage of six walks, the Gold would rally for three in the top of the fourth to tie the game 13-13. After a leadoff walk by Stephen, Jonathan and Ryan (4) would garner back to back walks to load the bases. Sawyer, Shamus and Anthony would follow with respective bases loaded RBI walks to bring Stephen, Jonathan and Ryan home with the tying runs.

With two outs and the bases loaded, TP reliever Miles (23) would induce a 6-4 groundout to extinguish the Bombers rebellion.

TP would threaten in the bottom of the fourth when Charlie led off the frame with a single and stole two bases to position himself at third as the potential winning run. However, Bloordale escaped the inning unscathed after Theo scorched a hot tamale line drive down the third baseline right into the mitt of Gold third baseman Shamus for the first out. Then Shamus stepped on the bag at third to erase Charlie, who had wandered away from the base for the second out…to complete an unassisted double play.

With two outs, Bloordale reliever Jonathan would induce a 4-3 groundout to close the deal on a hard fought tie.

The TP Minor Peewee Selects (7-2-1) continue their homestand at Christie Pits Diamond 2 next Wednesday, July 19 when they play host to the Royal York Cardinals at 7:00 p.m.
