THE ATHLETICS FEND OFF A FEVERISH TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS RALLY BID IN THE FINAL INNING TO TAKE THE VICTORY AT CHRISTIE PITS

Justin (18) delivers a two RBI single during Annette’s seven run uprising against TP in the second inning. In five at bats, Justin went 3 for 4 [two singles, walk, double] to power the A’s attack with two runs scored and five RBI’s. In addition, Justin also pitched three strong innings where he allowed three earned runs while striking out five.

Beneath a ceiling of warm and overcast midsummer skies, the Annette A’s defeated the Toronto Playgrounds Major Peewee Selects 16-13 in five innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Select action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

TP third baseman chases down Annette baserunner Shane (3) in the third inning to complete an 8-2-5 putout.

In the top of the first, TP starter Jashan (13) kept Annette off the scoring ledger via a groundout, pop out, and a fly out.

TP would stake itself to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom half of the first. After Daniel (46) and Jona (15) drew a pair of walks to lead off the frame and put two aboard, Nick (10) delivered a RBI single to bring Daniel home with the opening run of the game.

With two runners at third, Max (20) stroked a fly ball to right field that advanced Nick to third and allowed Jona to come homeward. 

Subsequently, with two outs and a base runner at third base, Josh (37) put the ball into play between second and third. An A’s defensive error on the play would allow Josh to reach first safely and bring Nick home with a run,

Annette starter Justin (18) would strike out two in the first to quell the TP insurgency.

The Athletics would answer back with a fury in the top of the second as they scored seven to take a 7-3 lead. Following a leadoff single by Tyler (47) and a walk by Stefan (21) that put two mallards on the lake, Matthew (4) stroked a one out RBI single to bring Tyler home with Annette’s first run of the game.

After a walk by Cam (14) loaded the bases, Patrick (22) connected for a RBI single that brought Stefan home. With the bases still juiced to the gills, Justin delivered a two RBI single to plate Matthew and Cam.

With two runners on base, Morgan (41) muscled a two RBI double that brought Patrick and Justin home to roost. Shane (3) followed with a RBI single to plate Morgan.

On the play, Shane would make a bid to stretch his single into a double. However, the TP defence would execute an 8-2-5 putout play [centre fielder Jona – catcher Max – third baseman Josh] to thwart Shane’s plans and chalk up the second out of the inning.

TP starter Jashan would strike out one in the second to subdue the A’s uprising.

In the bottom of the second, TP would tally one to trim the deficit to three. After a leadoff walk and stolen base by Rory (12), Jona would deliver a two out RBI single to bring him home.

Annette starter Justin would ring up a strikeout, groundout and a fly out in the second to douse the TP rebellion.

The A’s would reply with a pair in the top of the third to extend their lead to 9-4. With the bases loaded, Justin would stroke a two RBI single to plate Matthew and Cam.

TP reliever Jude (3) would ring up a strikeout and a pop out in the third to pacify the Annette mutiny.

PJ (17) delivered a mammoth three run home run blast in the fifth inning.

Kudos to the TP defence for executing a 2-4-2-5-2-1 rundown play between third and home to erase Patrick and chalk up the first out of the inning.

Refusing to surrender, TP battled back with two in the bottom of the third to cut the margin to 9-6. Following a leadoff triple by Max, an Annette error would allow Jude to reach base safely and Max to come home with a run.

After a single by Josh that put two aboard, PJ hit into a groundout at first that allowed Jude to come homeward.

A’s starter Justin would strikeout two in the third to extinguish the TP insurrection.

Annette would threaten in the top of the fourth as they loaded the bases on a single and a pair of walks. However, TP reliever Jude would tally pair of groundouts and a fly out to leave them stranded.

With 1-2-3 efficiency, A’s reliever would retire TP with a strikeout, fly out and a groundout in the bottom of the fourth to keep them off the scoreboard.

In the top of the fifth, Annette would unleash a seven hit attack and score seven insurance runs to stretch their lead to 16-6. After a leadoff walk by Justin, Morgan and Shane would stroke respective singles to load the bases. Tyler followed with a two RBI single to bring Justin and Morgan home.

With one out and two runners on base, Stefan would deliver a RBI single to plate Tyler home. Matthew followed suit with a RBI single to bring Liam (15) home.

Subsequently, with two outs and two ducks on the pond, Patrick muscled a two RBI double that brought Stefan and Matthew homeward. Justin followed with a RBI double to plate Patrick.

Refusing to go quietly into the night, TP rallied for seven in the bottom of the fifth to close the gap to three. With two aboard, PJ (17) would initiate the comeback bid in grand fashion by crushing a one out woolly mammoth three run home run blast over the fence in deep centre field.

Subsequently, with two outs and a runner at third, Daniel would muscle the ball towards first. The A’s would commit a faux pas on the play that allowed Daniel to reach first safely and allow Rory to bolt homeward with a run.

Following a walk to Jona that put two otters on the pond, Nick stroked a RBI single to bring Daniel home. Max followed immediately with a two RBI single that delivered Jona and Nick home.

Down 16-13, TP proceeded to load the bases with walks to Jude and Josh. With two outs the game on the line, Annette closer Tyler (47) induced a groundout to first base to bring the curtain down on the proceedings.

The TP Major Peewee Selects (8-5) play their final EBA Select regular season game at Christie Pits Diamond 2 next Wednesday, August 9 when they play host to the Royal York (Girl) Cardinals at 7:00 p.m.
