THE CURTAIN COMES DOWN ON A FUN SEASON FOR BOTH TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS PEEWEE SELECT TEAMS
Beneath a duvet of warm summer skies, the Toronto Playgrounds Major and Minor Peewee Select teams went down swinging this afternoon at the 2017 edition of the Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Peewee Select Tournament.
Teams participating in this year’s playoff rounds were operating under the double knockout formula, whereby a team with two losses would be eliminated from contention in the tourney.
TP Minor began the playoff tournament yesterday evening with a 9-5 loss to the Annette A’s at Millwood Park. Early this morning, TP Minor rebounded with a convincing 21-6 victory over the Bloordale Gold Bears at Queensway Park.
In a do or die round robin game at Millwood Park, the Martingrove White Sox defeated the TP Minors 9-6 this afternoon to knock them out of the tourney.
In an opening round robin game that was suspended after 2 ½ innings due to lightning on Friday night, the TP Major Peewees defeated Martingrove 9-5 when play resumed early on Saturday morning at Millwood Park. With little time to catch their breath, TP Major had to play a well rested Royal York team at Queensway Park following the conclusion of their suspended game. When the dust had settled, the Cardinals prevailed 6-4 over TP Major.
With their season on the line, TP was thrust into a win or else afternoon affair against the Bloordale Green at Queensway Park. In the end, the Green Bombers defeated TP Major 12-7 to end their journey at the tourney.
Despite falling short at the end of season tournament, both TP Peewee Select teams had a fun and productive regular season on the EBA Select circuit, with the TP Majors finishing at 9-5 and TP Minor with an 8-5-1 record.
In addition, both Peewee Select teams had fun and rewarding experiences competing against elite teams at respective tournaments throughout Southern Ontario during the course of the 2017 season.
The TP House League Baseball Committee wishes to thank TP Major Peewee Select Head Coach Paul Kelly; Major Peewee Assistant Coaches Jeff Kolyn and Michael Tutton; TP Minor Peewee Select Head Coach Marco Bianchi; Minor Peewee Assistant Coaches Mark Higgins Andrew Larsen and Adin Wener for their fortitude and patience in steering these talented Peewee Selects through the highs and lows of a fun and productive 2017 season.
The Committee also wishes to commend all the Major and Minor Peewee Select players, coaches, parents, and family members for representing the core values of the Toronto Playgrounds House League Baseball program with honour, dignity and professionalism both on and off the diamond during the course of the 2017 season.
WAY TO GO, TP!
