TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS PREVAIL OVER THE BOMBERS AT QUEENSWAY PARK TO CONTINUE THEIR PLAYOFF JOURNEY

Game post composed with file from Bill Evans

Beneath a layer of warm and cloudy summer skies, the Toronto Playgrounds Bantam Selects defeated the Bloordale Bombers 9-7 in four innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Select Tournament action this afternoon at Queensway Park.

Here are a few highlights:

  • With TP holding a slender 9-7 lead, the Bombers had the tying runs on base at third and second with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. However, TP third baseman Daniel (50) made a tremendous back handed play on a hard hit grounder and made a one hop throw to first baseman Thomas (8) to ring up the final out and preserve the win.
  • In a simple twist of fate, Daniel was pencilled into the third base position in the fourth after pitching three strong innings against Bloordale.
  • Kudos to Alden (7), who entered the fray in the fourth, to chalk up the final two outs and pick up the save.

With their victory over the Bombers, TP (2-1) advances into the semi-final playoff round of the 2017 EBA Bantam Select Tournament on Sunday morning. TP will battle the Annette A’s in a 9:00 a.m. semi-final game at Queensway Park.

After a tough 8-7 loss to the Martingrove White Sox on Friday evening at Queensway Park to open the playoff round, TP was thrust into a must win situation to continue their journey at the tourney. [Teams participating in this year’s EBA playoffs are operating under the double knockout formula, whereby a team with two losses would be eliminated from further contention in the tournament.]

In a do or die situation, TP answered the clarion call this morning with a dominating 16-3 victory over the Weston Wolverines at Dominico Field at Christie Pits to earn their first playoff victory. With the wind in their sails, TP defeated Bloordale this afternoon to punch a ticket into the semi-final round.

GO! TP! GO!
