TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS HEADS TOWARDS A CHAMPIONSHIP SHOWDOWN AGAINST THE BLOORDALE GREEN AT NEILSON PARK
Beneath a ceiling of beautiful summer skies, the Toronto Playgrounds Major Rookie Ball Selects defeated the Annette A’s 11-7 in an Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Rookie Ball Select Tournament Semi-Final game this morning at Neilson Park.
With the victory, undefeated TP (4-0) advances to a championship final showdown versus the Bloordale Green Bombers (3-1) at 2:00 p.m. Bloordale must defeat TP twice in order to procure the championship prize. [Teams participating in this year’s EBA playoffs are operating under the double knockout formula, whereby a team with two losses would be eliminated from further contention in the tournament.]
After opening the preliminary round of the tourney on Friday evening at Pelmo Park with a dominating 22-0 victory over the York Gold Riverdogs. TP carried its momentum into Saturday afternoon with a 16-6 win over the Royal York Cardinals, and an 11-7 victory over the Bloordale Green to advance to the playoff elimination round.
In the semi-final showdown, TP prevailed over the Athletics to punch a ticket into the championship final.
