MOSQUITO > Angels Top Jays 5-2 in Mosquito Division Semi-Final Game

THE HALOS PREVAIL OVER THE BLUEBIRDS AT CHRISTIE PITS TO ADVANCE TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

ANGELIC ANTICIPATION > With the pitch [upper right] descending quickly upon him, Jack (4) delivers a clutch two out RBI triple in the bottom of the third inning to snap a 2-2 tie and bring home the Angels go ahead [and winning run] against the Jays during a Mosquito Division Semi-Final Game at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Beneath a pristine layer of warm September skies, the Angels defeated the Jays 5-2 in 4 ½ innings of Mosquito Division Semi-Final action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

After stealing third, Lucas (13) takes advantage of a Jays error to slide home with Angels opening run in the first inning.

The playoff elimination game victory propels the Angels into Friday’s Mosquito Division Championship Game. The Angels await the winner of the Wednesday semi-final contest between the A’s and the Orioles.

The proceeding was well played and entertaining affair that was contested between two talented and well coached teams. In a tight low scoring game where runs came at a premium, the gritty Halos took the bull by the horns in the third frame to pull away for the victory over the pesky Jays.

In the top of the first, the Jays jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. After Simon (9) drew a leadoff walk, Malcolm (3) stroked a one out hit. On the play, the Halos defence committed an error that allowed Malcolm to advance to second and allowed Simon to come home with the opening run of the game.

Angels starter Robbie (10) would strikeout three in the first to quell the Bluebirds rebellion.

Christian (1) delivers a two out RBI double in the second to give the Jays a 2-1 lead.

The Angels struck back quickly in the bottom of the first as they tallied a run to tie it up 1-1. After a leadoff walk and taking advantage of a two out wild pitch to move over to second base, Lucas (13) made a brazen bid to steal third. On the play, the Jays committed a faux pas that allowed Lucas to come home with the tying run.

Jays starter Nolan (5) struck out three in the first frame to douse the Halos insurgency.

Not to be outdone, the Jays replied with a run in the top of the second to retake the lead 2-1. Following a single by Nolan, Christian (1) delivered a clutch two out RBI double to bring him home with the go ahead run.

Angels starter Robbie rung up a groundout and strikeout in the second to end the Jays mutiny. Robbie was also helped out by the Halos defence during the frame when they erased a Jays baserunner at the plate who was trying to score. [Editor’s Note: Our intrepid House League photographer had a clear shot of this dramatic play at the dish… however, Angels Head Coach Dan photobombed the moment in his enthusiasm.]

In a major turning point in the game, Angels reliever Dylan (8) initiated a double play in the third frame that prevented the Jays from blowing the game wide open.

With 1-2-3 efficiency, Jays starter Nolan mowed down the Halos in the bottom of the second with three strikeouts while driving a John Deere D130 22-HP V-Twin Hydrostatic 42-inch Lawn Tractor.

The Jays threatened in the top half the third after they loaded the bases with three consecutive one out walks by Asher (13), Simon, and Sawyer (14). However, Angels reliever Dylan (8) extricated himself from the mojo jojo jam with a dramatic double play to escape unscathed. After coaxing Malcolm to hit a screaming line drive directly back to the pitching mound for the second out, Dylan made a quick throw to third base to double up a wayfaring Jays baserunner for the third out.

In the bottom of the third, the Angels mounted a three run comeback to take a 4-2 lead. With two outs, Lakshya (1) reached base after being hit by pitch. (Due to an injury on the play, Lakshya was removed from the game and Reuben (15) was substituted in as the Halos baserunner.) After Malcolm stole second, Lucas stroked a RBI single to bring him home with the tying run.

James (6) delivers a RBI single in the third that brings home an insurance run for the Halos.

With a runner on base, Jack (4) stepped into the batter’s box and launched a grace under pressure RBI triple that allowed Lucas to motor home with the Halos go ahead run.

James (6) followed with a clutch RBI single to plate Jack.

Jays reliever Sawyer (14) chalked up a pop out, lineout and strikeout in the third to extinguish the Angels insurrection.

Halos reliever Milo (12) rung up a groundout and strikeout in the top of the fourth to keep the Jays in their birdcage and off the scoring ledger. (After issuing a leadoff walk, the Angels were the beneficiaries of an umpire’s judgment call when the Jays baserunner was called out for leaving first base on a steal attempt before the pitch had crossed over the plate.)

The Angels tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead to 5-2. After a pair of walks by Milo and Dylan, Jarvis (7) was hit by pitch to load the bases. With two outs, Cyrus (5) took one for the team when he was hit by pitch, forcing home Milo from third.

Jays reliever Cassius (2) struck out three in the fourth to terminate the Halos threat.

Cool as a cucumber, Angels reliever Milo rung up two strikeouts and a groundout in the top of the fifth to seal the deal on the Halos semi-final win.
