TAKING NO PRISONERS, THE LIZZIES TAKE DOWN THE ROCKIES AT CHRISTIE PITS TO TAKE HOME THE PRIZE

The jubilant Lizzies raise the Toronto Playgrounds House League Baseball Peewee Division Championship Trophy at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Solly (11) strokes a RBI single in the first inning to bring home the Lizzies opening run of the game.

Beneath a peaceful ceiling of cloudy skies, the Lizzies defeated the Rockies 9-2 in 5 ½ innings of Peewee Division Championship Game action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Lizzies starter Solly (11) struck out three in the top of the first to keep the Rockies off the scoring ledger

In the bottom of the first, the Lizzies staked themselves to an early 4-0 lead. After James (6) stroked a leadoff single and stole a pair of bases to advance to third, Eli (2) drew a walk to put two mallards on the lake. Solly followed with a RBI single to bring James home with the opening run of the game.

With two aboard, Brayden (15) delivered a two RBI single to bring Eli and Solly home. After stealing his way to third with two outs, Brayden came homeward on a wild pitch to score a run.

Brayden (15) slides home with the Lizzies fourth run in the first inning.

In a spirited effort, Rockies starter Max (3) struck out two in the first frame.

The Rockies replied with a run in the top of the second to trim the gap to three. After a leadoff single and a pair of stolen bases that moved him to third, Jackson (8) took advantage of a Lizzies error to come home with the Rockies first run.

Finding the groove, Lizzies reliever James (6) struck out three in the second to quell the Rockies rebellion.

In 1-2-3 fashion, Rockies starter Max retired the Lizzies in the bottom of the second with a pair of groundouts and a strikeout.

Lizzies reliever Vincent (8) chalked up a pair of groundouts and a strikeout in the top of the third to keep the Rockies grounded in a valley of moss.

The Lizzies tallied a pair in the bottom portion of the third to increase their lead to 6-1. Following a leadoff walk and stolen base by Oliver (4), Eli launched a one out RBI double to bring him home. After Eli stole third, Solly hit a groundout to deliver him home.

Ian (11) comes home in the fourth with the Rockies second run.

Rockies reliever Daniel (13) recorded a pop out, groundout and a strikeout in the third to douse the Lizzies insurgency.

Refusing to go quietly into the night, the Rockies clawed back with a run in the top of the fourth to trim the margin to 6-2. Following a leadoff triple by Ian (11), Max delivered a clutch two out RBI double to bring him homeward.

Lizzies reliever James rung up a strikeout and a pair of groundouts in the top of the fourth to end the Rockies mutiny.

With 1-2-3 efficiency, Rockies reliever Daniel retired the Lizzies in the bottom of the fourth with a strikeout, pop out and line out to keep them off the scoring abacus.

The Rockies threatened by putting two runners on base in the top of the fifth via a single by Rowan B. (9) and Rowan H’s (7) hit by pitch. However, Lizzies reliever Vincent vanquished the threat with two strikeouts and a groundout.

Taking care of business, the Lizzies added three insurance runs in the top of the sixth to widen their lead to 9-2. After Matthew (3), Oliver (4) and James drew consecutive walks to leadoff the inning and load the bases, Eli garnered a bases loaded RBI walk to plate Matthew.

With two outs and runners at third and second, Brayden stroked a two RBI single to bring James and Eli home.

Kudos to the Rockies for executing a pretty 2-3 double play in the fifth with the bases loaded.

With one out, the Rockies continued to battle to the end in the top of the sixth as Diogo (4) reached base courtesy of a walk. After advancing to second on a balk call, Diogo made a brazen bid to steal third. However, Lizzies catcher Brayden made a lightning throw to third baseman Tesfa (7), who tagged out Diogo for the 2-5 putout.

Lizzies starter Solly returned to the hill in the sixth to strikeout two and seal the deal on their championship game victory.
