2018 TP Peewee Select Baseball Workout/Tryout Sessions for October 17 & 19

AUTUMN WORKOUT/TRYOUT SESSIONS FOR PLAYERS INTERESTED IN OUR 2018 TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS PEEWEE SELECT TEAM CONTINUE THIS WEEK AT WINONA SENIOR PUBLIC SCHOOL

The Toronto Playgrounds Baseball Committee has finalized the schedule for its fourth round of workout/tryout sessions for players interested in playing Peewee Select (2005-2006) for Toronto Playgrounds in 2018.

Participants are advised that this week’s Peewee Select sessions will take place indoors in the gym of Winona Senior Public School, which is located at 101 Winona Drive. The school is located at the corner of Winona Drive and Tyrrel Avenue…..it is two blocks north of Davenport Rd. (and two blocks south of St. Clair Avenue West), and four blocks west of Christie Street.

To enter the school, please use the main doors for Winona Senior P.S. The doors face Winona Drive just north of Tyrrel Avenue….the door furthest to the right is the one that will be open for entry. Parking is available in the school parking lot…the entrance is off of Tyrrel Avenue,  just east of Winona Drive.

Here is this week’s Peewee Select Workout/Tryout Sessions Schedule:

Tuesday, October 17

  • Players born in 2006 > 7:45 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.  [Winona Senior Public School Gym]

Thursday, October 19

  • Players born in 2005 > 7:45 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.  [Winona Senior Public School Gym]

As a reminder, please don’t worry or panic if you can’t make it to these announced sessions...for this part of the tryout process, there will be a number of outdoor sessions for each age group, and missing one or two of them will not mean you won’t make the team. We realize that some players won’t be able to attend all the sessions….if you are interested, but can’t make these sessions, please let us know by return email….please include your child’s year of birth in the email. The Committee will be holding sessions for each age group on different days of the week during the outdoor workout/tryout portion so that everyone has as many chances as possible to make it out.

It’s also important to note that no one will be “cut” based upon these outdoor sessions. When the outdoor sessions end later in October, there will be a break before the tryouts resume indoors in the winter (in late January/early February)….everyone who is still interested at that point will be able to attend the indoor tryouts. Cuts will start to be made after two or three weeks of the indoor sessions.

These sessions are very important in that they give us as a league an opportunity to make an informed decision as to how many select team we can field in each division. The decision as to whether we have both Major and Minor select teams in each division or one blended team will not be made until after the outdoor sessions wrap up. So if you’re interested in trying out for Select please make it out to at least a couple of the outdoor sessions…but please also only come out to these sessions if you know you are interested in trying out for Select. Please read the Different Levels of Baseball at TP” information sheet regarding the Select program carefully before deciding to come out for the Select workouts/tryouts. As it states in the information sheet, if you are only interested in playing house league in 2018, then you don’t need to come out to any of these sessions.

On days of questionable weather, Players and Parents are strongly advised to check our Hotline [(416) 392-1914], Twitter feed [@TPbaseballnews], or website [https://torontoplaygrounds.ca/news/] if the weather is suspect for updates on the status of their outdoor workout/tryout session. Updates will be posted 45-60 minutes prior to the start of the session.
