A HUGE CROWD GATHERED AT CHRISTIE PITS TO PARTAKE IN THE SWEET POMP AND CEREMONY CELEBRATING THE INSTALLATION OF LIGHT FIXTURES AT DIAMOND 3
Beneath a warm blanket of picture perfect skies, a huge crowd of baseball loving patrons from the community gathered together yesterday afternoon to partake in the Jays Care Foundation ‘Field Of Dreams’ Light Poles at Christie Pits Diamond 3 Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.
There was a magical Cracker Jack crackle in the air as the Jays Care ribbon cutting ceremony was scheduled before the start of the 2018 Blue Jays Baseball Academy Honda Instructional Clinic that was being held at Christie Pits. As such, the sweet combination of the two events coalesced into a succulent extravaganza that celebrated youth baseball in our community.
Officials from Jays Care, the City of Toronto and TP Baseball were on hand at Christie Pits Diamond 3 for the pomp and ceremony befitting the historic occasion:
- Robert Witchel: Jays Care Executive Director
- Mike Layton: Toronto City Councillor for Ward 19, Trinity-Spadina
- Janie Romoff: General Manager, Parks, Forestry and Recreation at the City of Toronto
- Bill Evans: President, Toronto Playgrounds Baseball
By sheer coincidence, the official ribbon cutting event at Diamond 3 coincided exactly on the one year anniversary of Toronto Playgrounds House League Baseball’s Lights On 3 Fundraising Event at the Henderson Brewery last year.
After speeches from the dignitaries, Witchel and Layton held a ceremonial blue ribbon that four youth players from the TP House League Baseball program (Holden Abraham, Gavin Betts, Qayam Kassam and Tashi Mahler) had the honour to cut.
To cap off the special occasion, both Witchel and Layton threw respective ceremonial pitches to catcher’s Nico Pazzano and Niko O’Dacre .
And in the end, a wonderful time was had by one and all at our Lights On 3 celebration.
