THE GREEN BOMBERS PREVAIL OVER TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS AT CHRISTIE PITS

Liam (26) crushes a three run home blast over the centre field fence during TP’s four run rally in the third inning against the Bloordale Green at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Beneath a ceiling of warm and serene skies, the Bloordale Green defeated the Toronto Playgrounds Peewee Selects 17-12 in four innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Peewee Select Loop action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

The proceeding was a high octane barnburner that was contested between two talented teams. In the end, the explosive Green Bombers offence staked themselves to an early 13-0 lead in the first two innings and turned back a pesky TP rally bid in the latter innings to prevail for the victory.

Taking advantage of a wild pitch, Owen (9) bolted home from third base and scores in a chitty, chitty, bang, bang play in the second inning.

In the top of the first, Bloordale jumped out to an early 5-0 advantage. After Hudson (3) and Matthew (17) opened the inning with a pair of walks and stolen bases that put two runners aboard, Jonathan (11) delivered a sacrifice hit that allowed Hudson to motor home with the opening run of the game.

With one out, Ayrton (34) followed with a majestic RBI triple to bring Matthew home. A subsequent wild pitch by TP would allow Ayrton to come home to roost.

Following a single and a pair of stolen bases by Zachary (28) that moved him to third, Joshua (19) stroked a two out RBI single to plate Zachary. After a walk by Luke (24) put two ducks on the pond, a TP error allowed Joshua to shimmy home with another run.

TP starter Luca (12) would chalk up a groundout and a strikeout in the first frame to quell the Green Bombers insurgency.

With one out, Luca also received a nice defensive play from his friends. As Wesley (6) made a brazen bid to advance to third base on Zachary’s hit, TP shortstop Liam (26) took the throw from the outfield and made a rocket throw to third baseman Elliott (20), who tagged a sliding Wesley to ring up the 8-6-3 putout.

Bloordale starter Lisa (16) would stymie TP in the bottom of the first with a double play and a strikeout to keep them off the scoring ledger.

Ayrton (34) delivers a two RBI single during the Green Bombers eight run uprising in the second inning. In three at bats, Ayrton powered the Bloordale attack by going 2 for 3 at the plate with two runs scored and three RBI’s.

Feasting upon a Mandarin Buffet serving of six walks and a dropped third strike, the Green Bombers tallied eight runs in the top portion of the second inning to widen their lead to 13-0. The Bloordale uprising was keyed by a two RBI single by Ayrton and a RBI single from Zachary.

After issuing a leadoff walk, Bloordale reliever Luke (24) found the groove and struck out the next three batters in order to keep TP off the scoreboard in the bottom half of the second.

Following a pair of walks by Owen (9) and Hudson to open the top of the third frame, Matthew would be hit by pitch to load the bases. Jonathan would garner a RBI walk to bring Owen home from third and extend the Green Bombers lead to 14-0.

The TP bats stirred to life in the bottom of the third as they rallied for four runs to close the margin to 14-4. After a leadoff single by Sam (2), Joshua (16) drew a walk that put two otters on the lake. Elliott followed with a RBI double to bring Sam home with TP’s first run of the game.

Bloordale right fielder Owen would make two nifty Gold Glove catches to thwart the TP offence and tally a pair of outs.

With two outs and two aboard, Liam stepped into the batter’s box and crushed a woolly mammoth three run home run blast over the Dominico Field at Christie Pits chain linked fence in the deep dish pizza nether regions of centre field to give TP a much needed shot in the arm.

Dash (4) connects for a two RBI double during TP’s eight run rally in the fourth frame.

Unfazed by the TP salvo, the Green Bombers replied with three insurance runs in the top of the fourth to increase their lead to 17-4. After Zachary and Luke were hit by pitch to put two ducks on the pond, Lisa stroked a one out RBI single to bring Zachary home to crow.

Subsequently, with two outs and two runners on base, Owen hit the ball back to the pitching mound. A TP faux pas on the play allowed Owen to reach base safely and opened the portal for Luke and Lisa to blaze homeward with a pair of runs.

The TP defence would shine with three nice defensive plays in the fourth inning. Right fielder Sam would make a nifty catch on a dying quail off the bat of Joshua to ring up the first out. Elliott followed with a nice catch on an eight mile high popup off the bat of Joseph to tally the second out. And for the icing on the cake, first baseman Luca snagged a hot tamale shot off the bat of Hudson to chalk up the final out of the frame.

Refusing to surrender to their fate, the never say die TP Peewee Selects donned their rally caps in the bottom of the fourth and staged a feverish comeback attempt to usurp the Green Bombers. After a one out walk, Sam swiped a pair of bases with Grand Theft bravado to advance to third. Joshua followed with a RBI single to bring Sam home to do the jitterbug.

Exercising discipline at the dish, Elliott and Luca garnered back to back walks to load the bases. Dash (4) followed with a grace under pressure two RBI double to bring Joshua and Elliott home and trim the Bloordale lead to 17-7.

Players from Bloordale Green and the TP Peewee Selects congratulate each other on a great game.

After a walk by Liam reloaded the bases, Simon (10) drew a bases loaded RBI walk that allowed Luca to shuffle homeward and do the shimmy, shimmy shake.

With the bases still juiced to the gills, Cooper (7) delivered a clutch two RBI double that brought Dash and Liam home and pull TP to within seven.

With two aboard, Camille (29) stroked a RBI single to plate Simon. A subsequent error by the Green Bombers defence would allow Camille to move to second and bring Cooper home with TP’s eighth run of the inning.

Still clinging to an apple frittered 17-12 lead, Bloordale made a call to the bullpen to snuff out the searing TP rally bid. With ice in his veins, Green Bombers closer Joseph (20) entered the fray and struck out the next two TP batters to put out the fire and seal the deal on their fourth victory of the season.

After a four game homestand to open their 2018 EBA Peewee Select Loop season, the TP Peewee Selects (0-4) hit the road next Wednesday (May 30) when they travel to Smtyhe Park to battle the York Green at 6:15 p.m.
