As Weston starting pitcher David (89) awaits the throw, Cooper (7) takes advantage of a wild pitch to slide home with a dramatic run during TP’s eight run surge in the bottom of the first inning at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Beneath a genteel layer of warm skies, the Toronto Playgrounds Peewee Selects defeated the Weston Wolverines 13-8 in 3 ½ innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Peewee Select action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

After taking the throw, TP catcher Elliott (20) tags out Dimitri (11) to thwart his bid to steal home in the first inning.

In the bottom of the first, Weston jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. With one out and runners at third and second, Daniel (10) stroked a RBI single that brought Alex (4) home from third with the opening run of the game.

As TP second baseman Cooper (7) made the throw to first in an attempt to erase Daniel, Wolverines baserunner Dimitri (11) made the turn at third and bolted homeward in a brazen bid to score another run. However, first baseman Ernesto (13) pivoted and made a lightning throw to catcher Elliott (20), who tagged out Dimitri to ring up sweet the 4-3-2 putout.

TP starter Dash (4) would chalk up a pair of strikeouts in the first to quell the Weston insurgency.

Exercising patience at the dish in the bottom half of the first, TP feasted upon a scrumptious Wolverines buffet serving of nine walks as they scored eight to take a 8-1 lead. After garnering respective walks to open the inning, Vince (19) and Josh (16) stole their way into scoring position at third and second. A wild pitch by the Wolverines allowed Josh to advance to third and brought Vince home with the tying run.

Luca (12) delivers a two RBI double in the first inning. In three at bats, Luca went 2 for 3 [double, single] to spark the TP offence with two runs scored and three RBI’s.

Following walks to Simon (10) and Cooper that loaded the bases, Luca (12) delivered a one out two RBI double that advanced Cooper to third and allowed Josh and Simon to come home and give TP a 3-1 lead. Another wild pitch by Weston punched the ticket for Luca to shuffle to third and brought Cooper home to roost.

After a walk to Sam (2) put two ducks on the pond, Dash powered a two RBI double to bring Luca and Sam home to do the jitterbug.

Following a walk and stolen base by Fernando (30), the Wolverines uncorked another wild pitch that allowed Fernando to advance to third and opened the portal for Dash to zoom home with a run.

With two outs, Ernesto and Vince drew back to back walks to reload the bases. Josh followed with a bases loaded walk to plate Fernando.

Weston starter David (89) and reliever Matthew (24) combined for three strikeouts in the first frame to extinguish the TP uprising.

The Wolverines answered back with a pair in the top portion of the second to trim the margin to 8-3. After Matthew was hit by pitch to lead off the inning, Andrew drew a walk that put swans on the lake. David followed with a RBI double that brought Matthew home to crow. A TP error on the play allowed Andrew to mosey homeward with another run.

Finding his mojo, TP starter Dash would tally a strikeout and a pair of pop outs in the second to snuff out the Weston mutiny.

Dash (4) connects for a two RBI double in the first. In two at bats, Dash went 2 for 2 [double, single] at the dish to power the TP offence with a run scored and three RBI’s.

Not to be outdone, TP replied with three in the bottom of the second to widen their advantage to 11-3. Following respective singles by Elliott and Cooper that put two seals on the pond, Luca stroked a RBI single that brought Elliott home.

With one out and two runners on base, Dash delivered a RBI single that advanced Luca to third and brought Cooper home. A subsequent passed ball by the Wolverines would allow Luca to shuffle home with a run.

Weston reliever Matthew would strikeout three in the second frame to subdue the TP insurrection.

The Wolverines struck back quickly with three in the top of the third to shrink the shortfall to five. Following a leadoff single by Daniel, Matthew would be hit by pitch and Andrew garnered a walk to load the bases. With one out, Elliott delivered a two RBI double that brought Vince and Josh home to do the shimmy, shimmy, shake.

Weston reliever Matthew would strike out one in the third. Matthew was also the beneficiary of great play from his defence during the frame. With one out and a TP runner at first, Luca smoked a hot tamale line drive down the first baseline. However, Wolverines first baseman Andrew snagged the scorching liner in the shoestrings of his trusty mitt to ring up the second out. With the TP baserunner wandering astray on the play, Andrew stepped on first base to complete the solo double play that brought the curtain down on the inning.

Refusing to go quietly into the night, Weston donned their rally caps in the top half of the fourth and scored a pair to close the gap to 13-8. After drawing a leadoff walk, Angelina (6) would swipe a pair of bases to advance to third. On her theft of third, a TP faux pas would allow Angelina to motor home with a run.
