THE WHITE SOX PREVAIL OVER TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS AT CHRISTIE PITS

As Martingrove White Sox catcher Ryan (20) leaps in the air for the throw, Jiri (15) takes advantage of a wild pitch to score a dramatic run for the TP Minor Mosquito Selects in the bottom of the fourth inning at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Beneath a serene blanket of warm blue skies, the Martingrove White Sox defeated the Toronto Playgrounds Minor Mosquito Selects 12-3 in five innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Mosquito Select Loop action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

The proceeding was a well played contest between two talented teams. In the end, the White Sox made the most of their opportunities to prevail over TP for their third victory of the season.

In 1-2-3 fashion, TP starter Milo B. (27) induced a groundout and struck out two in the top of the first to keep the White Sox off the base paths and in the laundry hamper.

Martingrove starter Anthony (19) returned the favour in the bottom half of the first by retiring TP on three consecutive groundouts to keep them off the scoring ledger.

In the top portion of the second, the White Sox staked themselves to a 3-0 lead. After Sidney (14) led off the inning with a walk and a stolen base, Josh (18) stroked a one out single that put two ducks on the pond. After Josh stole second, a TP wild pitch allowed Josh to advance to third and Sidney to motor home with the opening run of the game.

Armin (5) sparked the White Sox attack. In three at bats, Armin went 1 for 1 [two walks, single] to power the Martingrove offence with three RBI’s against TP.

With two outs, Alex (3) and Ryan (20) drew back to back walks to load the bases. Armin (5) followed with a RBI bases loaded walk that brought Josh home. Subsequently, another TP wild pitch allowed Alex to come homeward with a run.

TP starter Milo B. would tally a pop out and two strikeouts in the second to vanquish the Martingrove uprising.

Not to be outdone, TP replied with a run in the bottom of the second to trim the margin to 3-1. After stroking a one out single, William (33) stole his way around the horn to move into scoring position at third. Cody (11) followed with a RBI single to plate William.

White Sox reliever Ethan (10) would chalk up a pair of strikeouts and a groundout in the second to quell the TP rebellion.

Martingrove answered back with two in the top of the third to widen their lead to 5-1. After Julian (4) reached base on a dropped third strike and Jared (6) drew a walk, Sidney was hit by pitch to load the bases. Luke (25) followed with a RBI single to bring Julian home. A TP error on the play would allow Jared to come home to roost.

After starter Milo B. exited the game with two outs, TP reliever Cooper (3) entered the fray to tally a groundout to extinguish the White Sox insurgency.

TP would threaten in the bottom of the third by loading the bases. However, Martingrove reliever Julian (4) coaxed a groundout and two strikeouts to end the threat and leave them stranded.

Martingrove would tally two runs in the top of the fourth to increase their advantage to 7-1. Following a leadoff walk and stolen base by Alex, Ryan delivered a RBI double to bring Alex home.

After Armin garnered a walk to put two swans on the lake, Liam (12) hit into a fielder’s choice that allowed Ryan to come home to crow.

TP reliever Dylan (10) would tally a pair of groundouts in the fourth to subdue the White Sox mutiny.

With one out, Dylan also received a little help from his friends when TP right fielder Milo S. (23) hooked up with first baseman Cody on a pretty 9-3 putout play to retire Ethan at first base.

Milo B. (27) connects for a RBI single for TP in the fifth inning.

Refusing to surrender, TP scored a run in the bottom of the fourth to shrink the deficit to six. With one out, Jiri (15) and Adam (20) garnered a pair of walks that put two otters on the pond. Taking advantage of a wild pitch by Martingrove, Adam would advance to third and Jiri would blaze home with a run.

White Sox reliever Josh (18) would chalk up a lineout and a pair of strikeouts in the fourth to douse the TP insurrection.

Martingrove would add five insurance runs in the top half of the fifth to widen their lead to 12-2. After a leadoff walk by Jared, Sidney stroked a single to put two seals on the lake. Josh followed with a one out RBI single to plate Jared.

Following a two out walk to Alex that loaded the bases, TP uncorked a pair of wild pitches that allowed Alex to advance to third and brought Sidney and Josh homeward to do the watusi.

After a walk to Ryan put two runners on base, Armin connected for a two RBI single to bring Alex and Ryan home to do the shimmy, shimmy, shake.

Called in via 911 from the bullpen, TP reliever Cody (11) entered the fray to ring up a strikeout and extinguish the White Sox brushfire in the fifth.

TP would tally a run in the bottom of the fifth to close the gap to 12-3. After a one out single and stolen base by Cooper, Milo B. delivered a RBI single to bring Cooper home.

Subsequently, with two TP runners on base, Martingrove closer Luke (25) would ring up two strikeouts to seal the deal on the White Sox victory.
