THE WOLVERINES KNOCK TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS OUT OF THE END OF SEASON PLAYOFF TOURNAMENT AT RAVINA GARDENS PARK
Beneath a blanket of warm and genteel midsummer skies, the Weston Wolverines defeated the Toronto Playgrounds Major Mosquito Selects 13-2 in a 2018 Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Mosquito Select Championship Tournament playoff elimination game action this afternoon at Ravina Gardens South Diamond.
With their second playoff loss, Toronto Playgrounds (1-2) is now officially eliminated from further playoff tournament play. (Each team participating in the EBA Mosquito Select playoff tourney is working under the double knockout formula, whereby a team is eliminated from further contention once they have lost two playoff elimination games.)
After their opening playoff game was rained out on Friday evening, TP began the tourney early this morning with a convincing 13-3 playoff elimination game win over the Royal York Cardinals in a 4 ½ inning affair at Christie Pits Diamond 3 to earn their first victory.
Early on Saturday afternoon, the Martingrove White Sox defeated TP 16-5 in five innings at Ravina South to hand TP its first playoff loss at the tourney.
Despite a 5-6 regular season record and an exit from the EBA playoffs, the TP Major Mosquito Selects nevertheless had a fun filled season of baseball during the 2018 EBA Select campaign.
In addition, the TP Major Mosquito Selects had a great time participating at the Welland Tournament back in June and advancing to the semi-final round of the Brampton Minor Baseball Association (BMBI) Dave Dash Memorial Tournament in July.
The TP Baseball Committee wishes to thank TP Major Mosquito Select Head Coach Jenny Foster and Assistant Coaches Alex Mavel, Chris Beaulieu and Paul Keable for their fortitude and patience in steering these talented Minor Mosquito Selects through the highs and lows of the 2018 season.
The Committee also wishes to commend all the Major Mosquito Select players, coaches, parents and family members for representing the core values of Toronto Playgrounds Baseball program with honour, dignity and professionalism both on and off the diamond during the course of the 2018 season.
