IN A JOLLY ROGER EXTRA INNING AFFAIR, THE BUCCANEERS RALLY BACK FROM A 12-8 DEFICIT TO PREVAIL OVER THE LIZZIES AND PUNCH A TICKET INTO A CHAMPIONSHIP GAME SHOWDOWN AGAINST THE CUBS
Under the pristine blanket of a warm September night, the Pirates edged the Lizzies in a nail biting seven inning Toronto Playgrounds House League Baseball Peewee Division Semi-Final elimination playoff game this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2.
The proceeding was an exhilarating and well played contest that saw an amazing comeback in the sixth frame that necessitated an extra inning to resolve.
Down 8-4, the Lizzies donned their rally caps in the top of the sixth as they staged a dramatic rally to deadlock the game 8-8. Through a series of key hits and walks, Isaac (14), Adam (6), Gabe (7) and Jonas (9) came home to roost.
In the bottom of the sixth, Lizzies reliever Julius (11) rang up two strikeouts to retire the gnarly Pirates battling order in 1-2-3 fashion to force an extra inning for all the gold doubloons.
The Lizzies exploded for four in the top half of the seventh to stake themselves to a 12-8 lead as Julius, Luca (12), Max (15) and Isaac came homeward to do the shimmy, shimmy, shake.
However, the Buccaneers refused to sail quietly into the night as they plundered with aplomb in the bottom portion of the seventh to dead knot the affair at 12-12. Jeremy (12), Anthony (7), Jibra’il (6) and Noah (8) came home to yo ho ho at the Captain’s Mess. The comeback rally was keyed by a cannon fired double from the sword of Vincent (10).
As Vincent swiped third with one out, ye salty seadog umpires doled out a shiver me timbers balk call against the land lubbin’ Lizzies. With his matey’s in tow, Vincent scallywagged home and jumped onto home plate to score the Pirates winning run.
With the semi-final win, the Pirates will battle the Cubs in the Peewee Division Championship Game on Friday (September 14) evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2 at 6:30 p.m.
