TAKING NO PRISONERS, THE ATHLETICS SHUTOUT TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS AT CHRISTIE PITS

Annette starter Patterson (3) pitched a complete game four inning shutout against Toronto Playgrounds during an EBA Peewee Select Loop Game at Christie Pits Diamond 2. Patterson allowed only two hits, no walks, while striking out seven TP batters to earn the win.

Beneath a blanket of warm and genteel summer skies, the Annette A’s defeated the Toronto Playgrounds Major Peewee Selects 10-0 in four innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Peewee Select Loop action tonight at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

In the top of the first, TP starter Jakub (11) retired the Annette batting order in 1-2-3 fashion with a pair of strikeouts and a quirky 8-3 groundout [centrefielder Simon B. (10) making a laser throw to first baseman Dash (27) to ring up the second out.]

TP starter Jakub (11) kept his team within striking distance by tossing three workmanlike innings against the A’s. Jakub allowed five runs while striking out six Annette batters.

TP threatened in the bottom half of the first when Dash hit a single and swiped his way around the horn to third base. However, A’s starter Patterson (3) chalked up three strikeouts to end the threat.

Annette drew first blood in the top of the second when they scored a pair to stake themselves to a 2-0 lead. Following a pair of one out walks by Alexander (35) and Rose (7) that put two aboard, Ramirez (1) stroked a clutch two out two RBI single to bring them home with the opening runs of the game.

Nonplussed, TP starter Jakub tallied three strikeouts in the second inning to subdue the Athletics insurgency.

With 1-2-3 efficiency, A’s starter Patterson retired the TP batting order with two strikeouts and a groundout in the bottom of the second to keep them off the scoring ledger.

The Annette offence added three more to their tally in the top portion of the third as they increased their advantage to 5-0. After hitting a leadoff single, Patterson stole a pair of bases to advance to third. Kriticos (8) followed with a RBI single to bring Patterson home.

After Bevan (34) reached base on a TP error that put two ducks on the pond, Alexander (35) followed with a RBI single that allowed Kriticos to come homeward.

Subsequently, with two outs and two runners on base, Ramirez delivered a RBI single that scored Bevan.

TP starter Jakub tallied a fly out, strikeout and groundout in the third frame to quell the A’s uprising. Kudos to TP right fielder Will (21) for making a nice catch on a fly ball off the bat of Rose to rob him of a hit and tally the first out of the inning.

In 1-2-3 order, Annette starter Patterson chalked up a fly out and a pair of strikeouts in the top of the third to keep TP off the scoring abacus.

Going for the jugular, the Athletics added five insurance runs to their total in the top half of the fourth to widen their lead to 10-0. After Patterson hit a one out single and advanced to second on a stolen base, Kriticos stroked a RBI single to bring him home.

Following a single by Bevan that put two otters on the lake, Alexander drove Kriticos home with a RBI single.

With two capybaras on the diamond, Rose delivered a two RBI single to bring Bevan and Alexander home. Subsequently, after swiping his way to third, Rose zoomed homeward with a run on a dropped third strike to Costa (18).

As TP third baseman Simon B. (10) awaits the throw, Rose (7) takes the base with a successful steal of third in the fourth frame.

Shaken, but not stirred, TP reliever Dash (27) rang up three strikeouts in the fourth inning to extinguish the Annette rebellion.

The TP Major Peewee Selects (6-2) travel to Millwood Park next Wednesday (July 3) evening for their next EBA Peewee Select Loop game versus the Bloordale Bombers at 6:00 p.m.
