WITH ROUND ROBIN PLAYOFF VICTORIES AGAINST BLOORDALE AND WESTON, TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS EARNS A SEMI-FINAL BERTH AGAINST THE YORK RIVERDOGS ON SUNDAY MORNING AT CONNORVALE PARK

Under a blanket of warm and succulent summer skies, the Toronto Playgrounds Major Peewee Selects prevailed 10-7 over the Bloordale Bombers in 3 ½ innings of round robin playoff action this afternoon at Millwood Park to earn a semi-final round berth in the 2019 Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Peewee Select Championship Tournament.

In a true grit effort, TP starter Dash (27) and reliever Shael (5) combined to limit the high octane Bombers batting order to seven runs. Meanwhile, the TP offence made the most of their opportunities to generate enough runs to take home the victory prize.

Toronto Playgrounds began its journey at the tourney on Friday evening with a tough 8-1 loss to the top ranked (and undefeated) Royal York Girls (12-0 regular season record) at Westway Park.

Because of the tournament’s double knockout formula, whereby a team is eliminated from further playoff play after two losses, Toronto Playgrounds was placed in a do or die situation to stay alive at the tourney.

In a must win game, TP rebounded with an authoritative four inning 17-3 victory over the Weston Wolverines this morning at Connorvale Park to even their round robin record at 1-1.

In a stellar foray, TP starter Shael combined with reliever Lucas (19) to limit the pesky Weston offence to only three runs. In the meantime, the TP offence took care of business as they hammered the Weston bullpen.

Late this afternoon, TP defeated the Bombers to finish with a 2-1 round robin record. After bouncing back to win two straight games, TP earned a much deserved bye into the semi-final elimination round of the tourney.

The TP Major Peewee Selects (2-1) will battle the York Riverdogs in their semi-final game at Connorvale Park on Sunday (August 11) morning at 11:15 a.m. The Royal York Girls will face the Royal York White in a 9 a.m. semi-final contest.
