THE CARDINALS PREVAIL OVER TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS IN AN EBA 11U SELECT LOOP GAME AT CHRISTIE PITS
Under a duvet of warm midsummer skies, the Royal York Cardinals defeated the Toronto Playgrounds 11U Red Selects 8-4 in four innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Select Loop action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 3.
In the top half of the first, Royal York exercised patience at the dish as they parlayed seven walks into an early 4-0 lead.
After garnering a leadoff walk, Abigale (19) flexed her Grand Theft prowess to brazenly swipe her way around the horn to third base. On her steal of third, TP committed an error that allowed Abigale to motor home with the opening run of the game.
Following a one out walk by Theo (77), Sienna (8) and Siena (99) drew respective walks to load the bases. Nikyla (7), Jack (4) and Nikita (22) followed with consecutive two out bases loaded RBI walks to bring Theo, Sienna and Siena home with three runs.
In a nitty gritty outing, TP starter Tristan (19) tallied a fly out and and strikeout in the first inning.
Toronto Playgrounds threatened in the bottom of the first after Harrison (42) and Kale (6) drew respective walks that put two ducks on the pond.
Unfazed, Royal York starter Sienna chalked up three strikeouts in the first inning to vanquish the TP uprising.
The Cardinals continued to take flight in the top of the second as they feasted on five walks and two hits to widen their advantage to 8-0.
Following back to back walks by Cameron L. (18) and Theo, Sienna delivered a one out RBI single that allowed Cameron L. to come home to the nest with a run.
After a walk by Cameron W. (3) loaded the bases, Siena, Nikyla and Jack drew consecutive RBI walks that brought Theo, Sienna and Cameron W. homeward with a trifecta of runs.
With determination, TP reliever Brayden (9) struck out a Cardinal in the second inning.
In the bottom of the second, TP put two runners on base courtesy of a pair of walks by Sydney (14) and Madeline (15).
However, Royal York starter Sienna rang up another three strikeouts to terminate the TP rebellion in the second frame.
With unbridled resolve. TP reliever Ethan (80) dispatched the Cardinals in 1-2-3 fashion in the top portion of the third with two strikeouts and a groundout.
The slumbering TP offence woke up in the bottom of the third as they took advantage of seven walks to trim the margin to 8-4.
After a leadoff walk by Grover (93), Kale and Jack (12) garnered back to back walks to load the bases. Brayden, Tristan, Ethan and Madeline followed with respective bases loaded RBI walks to bring Grover, Kale, Jack and Brayden home with the bacon.
Royal York threatened in the top of the fourth after a triple by Siena and a walk by Nikyla put two swans on the lake.
Unruffled, TP reliever Sydney chalked up a pair of strikeouts and a pop out to end the Cardinals mutiny in the fourth inning.
Refusing to go quietly into the night, TP donned their rally caps in the bottom vector of the fourth in a valiant effort to stay alive.
After a pair of back to back walks by Harrison and Grover to open the inning, Jack drew a walk to load the bases.
Shaken, but not stirred, Royal York reliever Jack (4) found the groove and tallied three strikeouts to seal the deal on the the Cardinals victory.
